Guesthouse Mozart - Apartment House

Price was exorbitant for the nightmare we’ve run into. Not because it’s due to peak season or anything, as we’ve had to move to better hotels within the same price.
Location: Not located in the busiest part of old town centre as advertised, but only at the very edge of old town which took a while to get to from the Salzburg Cathederal.
Interior: Incredibly run down, alley was dark with only a hanging light bulb when we first opened the door. Rooms were so small compared to the photos. We couldn’t even fully open the door nor fit the suitcases cuz it was so so cramped. The bathroom was run down with molds observed within the wall corners. Overall environment was primitive and shabby.
Amenities: NO LIFT, NO AC. We moved in only to know there’s NO AC. We understand and respect the legislations on historical property protection (thereby installing an AC requires approval by the authorities and going through the paperwork), but at least there should be some EFFECTIVE portable cooling devices and not just a fan that’s not cooling at all. We’re talking about the sweltering heat during summer in Europe. The property is not at fault for this extreme weather, but is surely responsible for taking extra steps in preparing for hosting guests under this extreme summery weather. Stairs are STEEP. If anyone is coming with elderly/ children, BEWARE. This property has surely overstated its value for purporting as a “guesthouse”. It shouldn’t even exist to host guests and travelers. Large scale maintenance and renovation is a must for this place to be livable for hosting guests and travelers, especially for a property as historical as such and charging at this price rate (144 euros per night on average).
Host attitude and hospitality: ZERO. We checked in through an intercom and never saw anyone on the property. There’s NO RECEPTION TO ASSIST- beware there’s nowhere if anyone is thinking about storing their luggages at the property/ reception upon check out.

The pre check in process was very time consuming. Filling out the online form ended up being a pain. I filled it out numerous times and still was contacted to do it again. I felt like it was one thing after another that needed attention to simply check in. Once completed, it was all good. Also note that leaving your luggage here is at your own risk even though the online information said that they can hold your luggage. It was just leaving it in the lobby and hoping no one bothered it. Don't plan to leave anything you wouldn't want to possibly lose. We were surprised that this was the only option. We didn't have anything walk away, but it made me a bit nervous leaving our things. The walk back to the car was a ways, so we just took the risk. Also, the water heater was unusually small and only had enough hot water for one or two really fast showers. Not a huge big deal, but with five of us staying, it was not convenient.

The apartment was quite small. Even though its description said there was a dining area, it was too small to use by 2 persons.
The description on booking.com says that "upper rooms can be reached only by stairs". This is misleading. ALL rooms can only be reached by a very steep staircase. There are no rooms and no reception at street level. There are no staff available at the property to give assistance to carry luggage up or down the staircase.

A bit squishy by the bed/ kitchen but considering it is a historic building that is to be expected. I would take squishy over not having the kitchen
