Overall we had a really good experience in Green village. The location is super convenient and the view of Ella rock is incredible! The hosts were really friendly and helpful and there were lots of small acts of hospitality - eg lending us an umbrella when it was raining, bringing us tea after we'd checked out and we were waiting for our taxi to arrive. They also offered a laundry service for an extra charge which was handy.
The room was fine for our needs and had a little fridge in it, which was handy. Breakfast was great! Really generous amount of food and all delicious.
There's a steep slope down to the property which you have to walk up each time you leave Some of the facilities are a bit basic, though functional. Our room had no AC, just a fan. We thought this would be more of an issue than it turned out to be - because it's cooler in Ella, we got away with it.
We were unfortunate to have some very rowdy neighbours on one of our nights, which is obviously not the hosts' fault, however, the walls were very thin and we could hear everything and because it's a guesthouse rather than a hotel, there was no one to call for help to manage the issue.
There were power outages on the property pretty regularly, some of which seemed to affect the whole town so may not necessarily be 100% an issue with the property.
An absolutely amazing stay - the hospitality we experienced here was above and beyond anything else we have had. The view from the balcony makes you not want to leave, a great location as well with only a short walk into Ella!

Green village is just perfect to connect with the mountains , and have the most delicious breakfast with the best view you can imagine.

The view was incredible, each floor had a balcony overlooking Ella rock and there were monkeys always walking around just below. The owners were so friendly and always checked on us. They also even dropped us at the station with our bags in their tuk tuk. We really enjoyed our stay!
There were quite a few power cuts each night, and the fan couldn’t be moved as it kept falling all the way to the side, so the room got quite warm. When the power cuts happened the fan also didn’t turn back on when power resumed.
This isn’t the owners fault, but next door had a big group of men staying who were obnoxiously loud after midnight - another guest asked them to be quiet and they began being quite aggressive. They came back out after 2am and the same happened. I think our owners could have asked theirs to intervene, as it isn’t down to guests to put themselves in harm’s way.
Having said that, we had a young group staying at our place and the neighbour also had to go and ask them to quieten down in the early hours, so this is something the owners should’ve dealt with. The pane above the door is just a piece of mesh, so outside noise can be heard really loudly in rooms

The view is amazing. Bed is comfortable. Staff are very nice and friendly. The breakfast included is pretty good too. The staff can help you carry your bags up the massive hill on their tuktuk when you are leaving
No AC in the room. Bathroom is very basic too, the floor gets flooded when you shower and takes a long time to clear. The property is down an extremely steep hill so you have a hike to get out each time
Eine sehr herzliche Gastgeber-Familie, nur ein paar Minuten entfernt von der Stadtmitte. Angenehm ruhig ist es hier - und ein sensationeller Ausblick auf die Berge! Wir haben es sehr genossen, genauso wie das Frühstück!

This is a quiet stay in the middle of the laidback city off the main road with one of the most breathtaking views I experienced during my travels in Sri Lanka, overseeing the lush mountains and a large waterfall in the distance. The clouds would sweep in envelop the terrace and when it rained one felt like they were in the middle of the storm clouds. I sat for hours and just watched nature put on a grand show. The rooms were clean and AC wasn't needed during the cool mountain evenings. The basic breakfasts were sufficiently sized and tasty. The family and staff running the property were friendly and helpful.
I stayed in two different rooms and the fans were non-functional in both. That being said, although working fans would have been nice, they weren't absolutely necessary in the cool mountain air of early May, and I would stay here again.
