We had a lovely breakfast with the whole family. We loved hearing about all the different art forms they are involved in, and how they are working to maintain Zapotec language and culture. It was so beautiful to sit on the patio and watch the rain clouds roll in.
The mototaxis drivers knew all about Casa Carmin, so it was very easy to get around town. The furniture and amenities were great. Spectacular views of both sunrises and sunsets from the private patio. The owners have created a wonderful atmosphere, and the staff were exceptionally pleasant. A perfect vacation from the rigors of nearby Oaxaca City.
Rien
Beautiful room and beautiful view of town. The family was very kind and gave me a warm welcome. It was very interesting to see their weaving workshop, chocolate making workshop, and pottery.
It’s up a hill from town, so be aware if you’re walking.

Our stay with this wonderful family was unique and unforgettable. I can’t say enough about the friendliness and kindness of everyone here. It was incredible to stay in this working weaving and pottery-making and chocolate-making centre. It was personal and so very interesting — and everything they create there is top quality! The breakfasts were delicious and huge.. we had dinner there one night and it was also so fabulous! We bought two rugs and some pottery and some of Issa’s amazing chocolate. Meriya took us on a long hike up the nearby mountain and then came home and made us breakfast! Rey David delivered our rugs to our new place in Oaxaca, and Issa went out of her way after we left to find some earrings that I wanted to buy.
Oh!!! And the terrace had an unbeatable view!!!!
What an experience! Loved it here. Loved the family and everyone there.
David did an amazing job teaching natural dyes, I learned a lot and had a great time. I felt welcomed into the family. I was invited to join going to the market with Fani and loved that. Lulu was such a lovely house mom. I couldn’t have loved my time there more.
Location. The family. The experience to see how carpets of the region are made. This is an active weaving workshop during the day. Weavers are weavingand visitors are visiting.
.
Beautiful setting and charming room with private bath.
It was perfect
I really liked the hosts. They were paitent with my poor Spanish skills and they loved to laugh!
The only down side was the sound of a loom starting first thing in the morning. With that said, Huella Carmin is an active weaving workshop.
Our stay with Rey David and his family was truly magical. The room and facilities were super cozy and the view from the terrace was spectacular. The family offered meals which were incredibly yummy. Their workshop and products are absolutely gorgeous. And the family was the best part of our time there -- my husband's birthday was during our stay and they surprised us with a birthday lunch and celebration. Our stay truly made memories of a lifetime.
The Huella Carmín family takes a lot of pride in sharing their home, their customs, and their culture with visitors. We were fortunate to be invited to participate in a tour of the rug workshop and learn all about the entrepreneurial projects that the family is working on. Being that we stayed here during Day of the Dead, this lovely and warm family also invited us to share in their spiritual rituals and traditions, including a typical (and delicious) Zapoteco breakfast and lunch, traditional dances, games, and prayers, and a visit to the cemetery.
It was a little bit difficult to find using Google maps (maybe Waze is better??), but once we arrived we immediately felt like we were at home. We also arrived after dark, so we'd recommend checking in earlier if possible.
Great breakfast, great location
