Too expensive during refurbishment
Pros:

Central location in West Bay close to restaurants and pubs.

Cons:

Too expensive for the room and especially during current refurbishment (which is very needed), should be at least £30 cheaper per night. Room was really hot, bed small and uncomfortable, didn’t sleep well at all. Bad layout of rooms. Loud when the “pub” was open downstairs. Not clean. Should be more consistency between rooms eg all include breakfast or not include breakfast. The email we received on booking had incorrect information about the pricing of breakfast so that needs double checking to avoid any confusion and should just be simpler. Just have one price for breakfast or include it for everyone. Especially at the price of the room, it should include breakfast for that price.

Great once finished
Pros:

The hosts were very accommodating & the breakfast cooked by father in law was delicious

Cons:

All the stairs as room was on top floor, but in all fairness the house has just had new owners and they have a lot of work to do, & our room was first to be done, it will be amazing when finished.. Also WiFi needs sorting as no reception at top of house

Perfection in a pillow!
Pros:

Loved everything about our stay, including the quirky wonky floor in our room! The new owners have done a great job renovating so far. Perfect location, really comfortable bed and super comfy pillows.

Pros:

The staff are wonderfully friendly. The property is lovely.

Cons:

This 1780 property is undergoing a major renovation. Despite that we were able to have a very enjoyable stay.

Lovely location to enjoy West Bay
Pros:

Location was perfect for access to West Bay. Atmosphere was relaxed with a small pub/bar for evening drinks with a community feel. Although we visited when it was very hot and the accommodation had no air conditioning. The room felt cool and fairly well ventilated.

Cons:

Was advised on arrival included breakfast was continental and full English was a lot more. Continental breakfast was good but would have appreciated clear information about type of breakfast being offered as part of booking beforehand.

See you next year
Pros:

Friendly informative owners and staff Excellent location with car park. Great to have a bar on site

Cons:

Continental breakfast needs looking at! Worth asking a bit more on room rates for better quality ingredients. Would be better for me to have a savoury choice or two, slices cheese , sliced ham even a jar of marmite Not a didn't like that will stop us coming again though

Friendly New Owners, Great Location
Pros:

Friendly New Owners, Great Location and Lots of Potential

We stayed at The Durbeyfield in West Bay twice during our trip, once near the beginning and again on our return journey, and found it to be a very friendly and welcoming place in an excellent location.

The pub was only taken over by the current owners around Easter 2026, and they are gradually renovating and improving the property. They explained that there are still some things they would like to update over the coming months, but they have already made a number of improvements and are clearly putting a lot of care into making the whole place comfortable, attractive and welcoming.

The breakfast room has already been beautifully renovated and is particularly lovely, with its original flooring retained and a warm, cosy atmosphere. The pub itself is small and welcoming, with plenty of character, and we were even amused to find Dortmund beer available there.

There are several outdoor seating areas, including tables directly outside the pub and larger picnic-style benches beside the parking area. It is a lovely place to sit outside in the evening, hear the seagulls and enjoy the atmosphere of being so close to the coast.

The location is one of the biggest advantages. West Bay harbour is only a very short walk away, with restaurants, outdoor food stalls, small shops and plenty going on around the harbour area. During our stay there was also a large fair nearby. Being able to leave the car behind and simply walk down to the harbour was extremely convenient.

We stayed in a family room with three beds, and one thing we particularly appreciated was that all three were proper full-size beds. In many family rooms the third bed is only a fold-out or temporary bed, but that was not the case here. The room was comfortable and welcoming, and it is clear that improvements have already been made there as well. The beds were very comfortable, and toiletries such as shower gel were provided.

Cons:

The bathroom in our family room was quite tight. It was separated from the bedroom by a sliding door located directly next to one of the beds, so bathroom noises could be heard very clearly in the room. A little more privacy here would have been preferable.

Some parts of the accommodation, particularly the bathroom area, are also still in need of renovation. However, as the new owners only took over the property recently and are already working on improvements throughout the building, this is clearly part of an ongoing renovation process.
