Great location within walking distance of old town. Good parking at the back of hotel
Two flights of stairs to room!
Staff were amazing - so helpful and friendly. Comfortable and clean rooms. Such a good location - only short bus ride into town or 20 minute walk.
Nothing! The only thing is some of the add ons (parking, breakfast etc) were a bit pricey.
Location was great for intended purpose (Work at the Holgate Park Drive), could walk from station and to work too.
It was not clear initially that the hotel had no air conditioning and I was nervous about the impact on my stay during the heat wave but somehow the room remained cool throughout, and the fan helped too
Good location and nice clean hotel . Also room was cool despite the hot weather . Lots of nice touches such as chilled water, fresh milk and quality biscuits. Lovely staff.
Parking was very expensive. Shower overflowed one morning but staff dealt with it
Great breakfast, comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff
We appreciated the early facility of parking the car before booking in later in the afternoon. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The Holgate Suite was comfortable and spacious. The entry system is straightforward and easy to use. The hotel is conveniently located for both walking or taking the bus into York.
Nothing
Great place ,sensational staff,amazing food
Leaving
Excellent property. Very nice new room, comfy beds. Bathrooms were particularly nice. The parking options are great

The staff were excellent, especially the young man on reception 👏 he helped us with a couple of small requests which we were truly grateful for. Thank you
The room was considerably smaller than expected. We didn't like the bike racks. We phoned ahead to enquire how safe our bikes would be. They were in view from road so we had to make alternative arrangements.
I'd like to start this by saying that the staff was very welcoming and nice.
However, the list of extras that this hotel requires is quite long and we did not expect it at all. First of all, it is labelled as dog friendly, however you cannot select on booking that you have a dog. We found out the night before via a phone call that we would require 30 pounds extra a night if we had brought our dog.
In regards to the room, the pictures are very misleading. The room is small and the bathroom door keeps open and has no lock, providing complete lack of privacy. In particuliar, the bathroom in our room was right opposite a window that is facing the car park and a street with costant flow of people, were people could easily see you while doing your business.
Furthermore, we noted that the bedside tables have no handles on the draws making them quite hard to open.
Parking in the hotel is 20 pounds per night, as advertised on booking.com, and there are very little alternative options of parking around the hotel.
We did not appreciate being asked about the time of our arrival the day before, which was accepted on the phone call, only to be told when we did arrive that to check in an hour earlier we would have had to pay an additional 20 pounds. We ended up walking to central York during that time, only to realise that with reduced mobility (my partner is pregnant) we were around 30 mins from the main streets.
Nonetheless, we were disappointed by the lack of milk provided in the bedroom. This was available for free only in the downstairs kitchen, with nowhere to keep it in the room in absence of a fridge.
Eventually, we booked for 2 nights but we left after one.
Decor and location
Lovely clean period property
Excellent staff and excellent breakfast..
Bed was too small, my wife slept on the couch. Parking was too expensive and excessive charge for our pet to stay.
Location was good, bed comfy.
valve for money, I thought £20 for parking your car and £19 for breakfast was expensive on top of the room rate and the bathroom very small
Clean and welcoming
It was very hot during our stay and we could only open the windows 10cms
It is a beautiful little boutique hotel and the service is excellent. The person who booked me in on reception (I think her name was Grace or Natalie- it is whoever was on reception 3 June at 7pm-ish) gave me such a warm welcome and was so helpful. I love that you can get fresh milk and water, and that you are shown to your room. It is also in a fantastic location
I had to leave before 8, so I missed breakfast :(
All of it!
