Hyggelig betjening, flott rom og fin utsikt
Frokosten var ikke god
It’s location suited us
Difficulties in communication due to phones not working and on check in the wifi not working
Longish wait for a meal
Pie ordered but when it arrived no pastry just stewed meat as run out of pie crust. ( I wasn’t warned) also gravy poured all over chips.
The vegetables were very undercooked so that it was difficult to cut with a knife
Location.
The welcome was very cursory. We were told the bar /restaurant was closed and directed to a cafe down the road, which was very busy but welcomed us. We were given no introduction to the hotel, facilities, restaurant or bar. On our second day, it was more friendly and welcoming.
Location was perfect as we had our electric car with us, EV charging 5mins walk away, delightful village featured in the TV Shetland series 8, easy drive to Lerwick. The hotel owner, Mitch couldn’t have been nicer, finding us an excellent room, despite the fact hotel very busy and full of friendly good advice for places to visit.
Breakfast very good, but optional dinner in hotel less so. I believe it's hard to find a good chef in Shetland and the current one didn’t even turn up on the Sunday!! Clearly not the owner’s fault and I’m sure he’ll work hard to remedy this problem. Stairs to bedrooms are steep (no lift) so hard going for seniors like us. A better banister than the current one would help and - even better - banisters on both sides! These are only minor difficulties and don’t take away from the excellence of the bedrooms and bathrooms and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
Location. Amazing steak pie. Kate couldn't do enough for us, lovely lady. Good breakfast.
Our room was very good.
The catering arrangements were rather disappointing.
Beds
No dinner, no b/fast. They knew cook was sick but didn’t prepare anything - packaged muffins, no fruit.
Located on the harbour front with ample parking. The staff were a nice young team and the breakfast was great. It offers an alternative but closeness to Lerwick as accommodation there can be at a premium,
The room was small but modern and the bathroom was great though the shower never get quite hot enough,
Others have mentioned the paper thin walls and noise from other rooms, this could be an issue but as we were not there on a Friday or Saturday we were not disturbed.
Rooms are not serviced at weekends and mid week only some days. Penny pinching.
Beds advertised as super king are not. They are std U.K. 160cm wide king beds. That’s a queen to Americans. That was my biggest gripe being used to 180 wide bed.
The WiFi is poor in the rooms, often signal dropping out and nothing to do with because it’s Shetland, a hotel should have mesh repeaters and a fibre connection which is available in larger villages and towns. Failing that Starlink. This didn’t and at even with an occasional wifi signal it was poor. So easy to address Scalloway!
Finally evening meal. We were not asked in advance if we needed a table and the dining room was full. We had to sit in the public bar were it was loud with foul language. But no trouble. Then we discovered half the menu was sold out so we ordered other items only for server to return to say further things were gone :( at this point I heard a friendly local apologise to another guest “the food used to be good here”. The meal we got was 5/10.
Super clean - welcoming and helpful staff - evening meals were good - well presented and good portions and value for money
Close to everything. Had a nice restaurant for dinner as we came in late.
Bathroom was updated, but it was a bit cramped feeling for me
Extremely comfortable room and bed. Very quiet. Lovely breakfast.
Don’t be put off by pub like exterior.
The location is fab and food was amazing.
The creaky stairs but also adds character to the building. Really nothing I didn’t like.
Nice little hotel, nice staff except see What don't you like. Very dog friendly. All in all I really enjoyed my stay despite the issues.
No Saucermeat available to order for 5 days despite being on breakfast menu. Breakfast on last day was a faulty towers-esque disaster. Ordered bacon, 2x black pudding slices, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms. All arrived after 25 mins (chef had "nipped out") or so except black pudding. Asked about this - waitress says "oh s**t". Chef is to make it. After much microwave whirring and dinging 5 minutes later ONE black pudding slice arrives. I stood up and walked out. Breakfast has now been 45 minutes and still did not receive what I ordered.
Room was very clean, comfortable and very well equipped
On behalf of myself Jonathan Clifton my Mum Lesley Clifton & my Uncle Graham Wood we would like to thank Robyn very much for all of her help friendliness & kindness during our stay at the lovely Scalloway Hotel in Scalloway Shetland which made us feel very welcome.
We all enjoyed a lovely holiday & it was a great memory to my Nana & Grandad Terry & Irene Wood who lived in Scalloway the Shetland Isles with my Uncle Graham in a caravan for three years at the Point in the 1960s & my Nana brought my Mum over to Scalloway the Shetland Isles for a holiday in 1978 & Robyn gave us a book called Our Street to look through & we found some of my Grandparents friends they had made all these years ago in it which was great as we met up with my Grandparents friends & the lovely couple Sandra & Iain Gilfillan who now live in Anna & Billy Watts house r related to Robyn which is lovely we met up with Sandra & Iain at the Community Center with a nice lady called Sonya which was very nice & we visited Doreen & her son David Halcrow at their home in Scalloway which was very nice too they were all lovely people so Mum bought some copies of the book for us to bring back home & Robyn also suggested we to spoke to an elderly gentleman called Davie who Robyn had said Davie had excellent knowledge of the Shetland Isles & it’s people.
We enjoyed watching some of the football games in the bar which Robyn managed to put on for us was very kind at the Scalloway Hotel Scalloway Shetland & we sat beside a nice chap called Mark who was there too & was very friendly.
We enjoyed going to see DI Jimmy Perez house in Lerwick out of the series Shetland on the tv which is a great series & we enjoy watching.
Great location, very nice hotel and Robyn was exceptionally friendly and helpful.
We booked this hotel for the Up Helly Aa festival but were forced to cancel after major disruptions to the Shetland ferry service. In the days leading up to our stay, we repeatedly tried to contact the hotel and even involved the Booking.com team — none of us received a single response.
We fully accept that our booking was non‑refundable and weren’t asking for a full refund. A partial refund, however, would have been a fair and ethical gesture given the circumstances. Instead, the hotel chose not to acknowledge any of our messages or emails. That silence speaks volumes about how they view their guests.
Travellers should be cautious when booking here, especially given how common travel disruptions are in the Shetlands. A hotel that refuses to communicate when plans go wrong is not one you can rely on.
Fantastic place to stay in Scalloway.
Lovely, friendly and helpful staff.
Great cooked breakfasts and really nice dinner menu.
Very comfortable room with spacious en-suite bathroom. Hosting team were very polite and helpful. Drinks in the bar were excellent value for money, probably the cheapest pints in Shetland. The cooked breakfast was amazing. Great location in Scalloway, near the shops and museum and plenty of parking nearby.
The only fault I had was that my room was above the kitchen and they did play their music loud, but as someone who worked in a kitchen in my teenage years I can understand it and it’s not like it was an all night rave, it was quiet from 10pm. Also couldn’t seem to turn the shower off without turning off the switch in the bedroom, had to get fully dry before I could switch it off.
