The Pier Pods on the water- 50m from Townsville bus terminal and ferry terminal- Passport ID requried

There are too many long term guests that basically occupy the kitchen. I could barely use the fridges. Also the long term guests are very clicky. Hard to make friends if that’s what you are looking for.

El check in fue muy tedioso, tuvimos que rellenar nosotros nuestros datos y descargar una app para entrar en las habitaciones mientras la chica nos miraba sin hacer nada. Muchísimo desorden en las habitaciones, suciedad en la cocina, aunque la limpiaban por la noche. Muchos huéspedes de larga estancia no cuidaban las zonas comunes y ocupaban los armarios o baldas que no les correspondían. Adjuntamos fotos del desorden y suciedad junto a las camas y nuestros armarios con candados. Pedimos mantas por teléfono y no recibimos absolutamente nada.

The biggest issue with this hostel is the extreme overcrowding. The entire hostel consists of one single room with approximately 40–50 beds, all in the same space. Some beds are also occupied by couples, which makes the room even more overcrowded and chaotic.

There is also practically nowhere to store your luggage. Although there are designated storage spaces for each bed, many of these spaces are used by the people who live there, including couples who stay long-term. As a result, there is constant clutter and very little space for new guests. There is also no proper staff presence or management. You rarely, if ever, see anyone representing the hostel. The people who live there seem to be the ones cleaning and maintaining the place, with no real supervision or control.

The kitchen is far too small for the number of people staying there and was consistently dirty and overcrowded. During my stay, I was never able to properly use it for cooking.

It’s a real shame because the location is excellent and the balcony has a great view, but the overcrowding, lack of luggage space, poor cleanliness and almost complete absence of hostel management make the experience very disappointing. The place desperately needs better organisation, proper staff supervision and, most importantly, far fewer people sharing the same room.

La propreté n’est pas au rendez-vous. En effet, les draps étaient sales, la serviette avaient des taches dessus, autour du pod c’était très sale.
Il n’y a pas assez de douches et toilettes pour le nombre de personnes, c’est donc sale très vite.

My bunk was right under the a/c vents so it was chilly at night

As I haven't stayed in this type of accommodation before, I emailed the Pier Pods to ask if there were lockers available and if I needed to bring my own lock. I didn't receive a response. The email I received for check in would not send a verification code. I replied to the email a few times explaining this but didn't get a response. I called the contact number once I arrived and they requested I send a pic on my passport. I was then sent the access codes. The floor areas in the pod room was very messy with peoples personal belongings spread all over the floor.

No receptionist???? Strangest hostel ever. Had to TEXT a random number a photo of my passport to check in. Very unsafe and how can they even verify that it's me as they cannot see me. I could have someone else's passport and booked under their name? Very stupid. Also kitchen is way too small for the amount of beds, all the long term backpackers had designated spots in fridge/ cupboards so short term folks like myself have no chance. There was also a fight on my final evening there. Maybe if there was staff it could have been stopped.

Lack of staff is ridiculous. I required parking which I was asked about before arrival, provided the reg, and then nothing so assumed I would just be allowed to park there. On arrival there was no-one at reception, and I was told by a long term guest that the receptionist had left for annual leave until Monday (5 days later) and that noone would be there. I tried to ring the number several times I was provided (in and out of office hours). I then messaged on booking and got a reply some hours later with no response to my issue and just 'there is staff on site 10am-4pm'. The next day, low and behold, no staff????? I then got told much later in the day that the cleaner could do admin tasks, well the cleaner had left? Also not the cleanest in the main room, a LOT of belongings (fire safety came whilst I was there and was told it needed to be moved or it'll be shut down). Guests kept leaving the back doors open so mosquitoes got in. Air con wasn't operating on the 2nd night.
