The location
I have never been so disappointed in a hotel stay. To be blunt, the entire property is in a state of disrepair and is in desperate need of a complete refurbishment.
The building housing our room was absolutely disgusting; it was plagued by a foul smell, filthy stained carpets, and—most disturbingly—an active bug infestation throughout the area. To make matters worse, the bed in our room was broken, and I was horrified to find blood on the sheets.
The dining experience was equally abysmal. During dinner, my steak was served overcooked, and when I sent it back, it arrived completely raw. I ended up eating a bowl of chips while my partner finished her meal alone. The sides were just as bad: the red cabbage was clearly microwaved (hot on top, freezing cold at the bottom), and the "side" of peas was simply a bowl of unseasoned, frozen peas. It is genuinely shocking that this establishment operates under the Marco Pierre White name; the quality was unacceptable.
Breakfast was no better. We were completely ignored by staff, and we discovered that if you want a cooked breakfast, you are hit with an extra charge; otherwise, you are limited to cereal or crumpets.
When I went to reception in the morning to voice these serious complaints, the staff member was rude, unattentive, and—rather than dealing with my issues—attempted to take payment from my account right in front of me.
I have an ongoing formal complaint regarding this stay, but I felt it was necessary to warn others. Do not stay here
Very quarkie
Finding it, no sign
Furnished to a high standard and tastefully decorated. The food was very good. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Very good deal for DB&B through booking.com. We would definitely like to visit again and stay in the coach house.
There is no signature at the entrance. The grounds could be improved with cut paths without losing the wildness. Lack of storage for clothes and luggage in the bedroom. Some more modestly priced wines in the restaurant.
You’re paying to stay in a sumptuous art gallery full of interesting artefacts. There is a feeling of joyous naughtiness, like having an affair somehow. The Hungarian goose down duvet was a guilty pleasure. Awesome night’s sleep.
You can’t arrive before 3. The reception room lacks warmth and welcome.
Atmosphere and gardens
The decor is very eclectic. But you should remove the Chairman Mao pictures, , he is responsible for the deaths of 40-50 million.
All the animal mounts are disgusting.
The location was ok to find and from the entrance to the main door it was a secret secluded driveway ending in the spacious grounds full of beautiful trees everywhere.
Entering the building was a very unexpected surprise of the decor, comfortable sofas in some sitting rooms, lots of artwork everywhere and the dining room was also eclectic, eccentric and somewhat sensuous with atmospheric lighting.
The staff were wonderful, polite, efficient and attentive without being intrusive and the food was excellent.
Bathroom:
Husband says a shaver/toothbrush socket would be welcomed.
Wife (me) says some lighting at the handbasin mirror would be welcomed.
garden area was nice to walk in but some areas felt in kept with broken furniture - this did not feel atmospheric it just felt un loved
the bedroom wasnot practical , for example no where to hang clothes , no tea making facilities in the room. we booked lunch and dinner to find that the menu was the same with very limited options for pescatarian/ vegetarian which may partner is
Location and food were amazing as always!
The WiFi signal has always been extremely weak in the Coach House and this has not changed across the multiple times I have stayed here unfortunately.
I’ve stayed at The Rudloe numerous times now, and always have a very comfortable, enjoyable stay.
The rooms, including the shepherds huts are all very comfortable, very well furnished & tastefully decorated, while all the communal areas within the main house are all very interesting with an array of unusual furnishings and bespoke furniture as with the rooms, with an eclectic mix of curios from around the world, making it a very interesting place to stay.
A shame breakfast isn’t served before 8am.
On this occasion, sadly I had to leave at 07:30am missing breakfast.
Stylish and well equipped quirky decor and fabulous big shower. Good pillows
Great meal wonderful quality
Only one hand towel so issues drying hair
Only air to room was French doors so they had to be open all night
Wine list is exceptional but high end but paid corkage to bring my own excellent wine
The property is wonderfully set and whilst the interior design is very busy, the premis is fabulous. The dinner food was good w/o being spectacular but the full English breakfast was a great treat.
The property didn't live up to its potential. The gardens were in dire neglect and what could have been amazing was hugely disappointing. The place needs some money invested in it. Sadly the staff seemed to echo that neglect and seemed disinterested. Every opportunity to cut costs or ask for supplementary income was evident. A great place that feels like it needs a new and enthusiastic owner wanting it to return to its more glorious past.
Very pleased to have made the visit. What a massive bag of all sorts! Mostly exceptionally enjoyable a few a tad bizarre...
The brilliant included the wonderful furnishings, the host of Japanese Acers in the sun and probably the best poached egg ever. A bit disappointing was my 'salad of roast beetroots' which appeared as a single pickled lump - although the 'dressing' was pleasing. The service was fine if a bit naive in places, the room comfortable apart from the distinctly annoying, periodic flash of (fire detector?) in the ceiling and the hanging blind fixing (although I enjoyed the therapy of refitting it). The few downsides though were nothing compared to the many pleasures. And of course, being lucky enough to pay the discounted DB&B it was also great value and hope to enjoy again - if allowed. The deserts and cheesy pots were delicious.
Having to leave.
