The Spyglass & Kettle by Greene King Inns

The rooms are very tired, the outside could do with a lick of paint to brighten up the outsidre, no luxuries, the food was adequate, a bit more attention to presentation, even when you're busy,

Wir hatten ein Familienzimmer mit zwei kleinen separaten Bereichen. In diesem kompletten Zimmer inklusive Bad gab es nur ein Kippfenster, das zu öffnen war. Alle anderen Fenster waren festverglast und schmutzig. Wegen des sommerlichen Wetters war es drinnen sehr stickig. Auch die bereitgestellten Ventilatoren konnten da nicht viel ausrichten. Das Hotelzimmer war alt und nicht gut gepflegt. Das Badezimmer ist winzig, sollte dringend renoviert werden und die Belüftung hat nicht funktioniert. Wir haben uns gewundert, warum auf den Bildern bei Booking unser Zimmer nur in einer Perspektive dargestellt war. Aus anderen Blickwinkeln würde man zum Beispiel sehen, dass der Weg zum Bad am Doppelbett vorbei nur ca. 25cm breit ist. Dieses Zimmer ist für 4 Personen nicht geeignet.

Room was on the third floor during this summer's heatwave, the window barely opened and there was no breeze. I asked for a fan and was told there wasn't enough for the staff, let alone guests staying - my lipsticks melted in the room to give you some context as to how hot it was. It was very uncomfortably hot and I struggled to sleep both nights, even on top of the covers! The room smelt musty and of damp, there was no window in the bathroom and the wallpaper was peeling. There were lots of hairs in the bathtub on arrival and the bathroom only had shower gel and handwash - no shampoo or conditioner! On the second day of my stay, the housekeeper arrived at 10am to clean my room, I asked her to come back at midday as I would be out for the rest of the day, she never returned so my room wasn't cleaned. The pub itself was very busy and lots of food items on the menu had sold out too.

The room was a bit messy. But not to disturbing.

The property is dirty and rundown

everything - checked in and left 5 minutes after entering my room.

The hotel is tired and frankly getting a bit shabby. Which television channels could be accessed was a bit hit and miss, not all worked. Given the heat a fan would have helped.

We were very disappointed with our stay at Spyglass & Kettle.

Upon arrival, we were placed in very small rooms. One of the rooms was expected to accommodate two adults and two young children, which felt far too cramped. Ventilation was also a major issue. The children's room had windows that could not be opened at all, and in our room only one very small window could be opened. The remaining windows had been screwed shut. Combined with the visible mould in several places, this created an uncomfortable and unhealthy environment.

The breakfast was equally disappointing. The selection was extremely limited and most items were gone within the first ten minutes. Drinks were not refilled, there was virtually no choice of toppings or spreads apart from a few small portions of marmalade and Nutella, and several guests were left without breakfast items because nothing was replenished.

Overall, we expected a much better standard of accommodation and service. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we would not choose to stay here again.

Nichts

Very low sloping ceilings, no usable mirror in bathroom, no air con so room was uncomfortably warm and fan provided did not really help, room needed decorating and showed signs of damp in desk area

We stayed during one of the summer heatwaves and our room (nr 2) was unbearably hot.
We appreciate that the premises are not air conditioned and that we were provided with a fan but due to the heat rising from the kitchen and the pub, we could only stay one night and had to leave a day early.

Everything else - the room was unclean, the shower was literally broken (parts falling off) and stuck running scalding hot. We had no hand soap in the room. The room is SW facing, on the top floor, and without air con. Letting people stay here was borderline inhumane. This is no fault of the staff - the place seems underprepared and under invested in. For a company reporting £200+ profits last year, there's no excuse. The price was reasonable for the location and time of year, but only when compared to other hotels nearby - still north of £100 per night to sleep in a shabby sauna. Sort it out Greene King.

Bar staff who initially grating me when I arrived to check in were not particularly welcoming.
Half of the jets in my shower head did not work, so the water flow was incredibly week, and it was located ridiculously high, preventing me from washing suds out of my hair!

Unfortunately, I was unable to get hot water from the shower and I could not find the switch for the light above the bathroom mirror. I also found it slightly expensive for just one night.

It was roasting hot on the 3rd floor! It would be great if the curtains were shut when the sun hits the room to help prevent the heat building up during the day before check in. Also having fan avaliability would be excellent (Although I admit I didn't ask if there may be avaliability to be fair)

The room tricky if tall as sloping ceilings and shower poor as fixed st ceiling height

Shower was dangerously hot and could not be turned down. I wasn't expecting a 5 star hotel room in a lun, but I do expect to be able to use the Shower. We are regular visitors to southbourne but won't stay here again

Bedroom furniture functional but a bit tired.
