Pros:

Amazing location. Amazing photos of climbers and lake district on walls. Good pub adjacent.

Cons:

No shower. There was a bath but I had been walking since 5 30am, had fallen in a bog and really needed a shower. Not that clean. Visible rubbish and dirt on main stairway. Stains on sheets. Paint peeling off windows. Inedible biscuits in room. No glass. TV hard to work. Not able to make calls from mobile phone to confirm safe arrival. Dirt in coffee/tea tray. Soap bottle all sticky on outside. This is the most I have ever paid for an overnight stay and it was much worse than far cheaper places. I have just completed the Pennine way followed by a week in the Lakes. This accommodstion was the most expensive and the worst I have stayed in. Staff were friendly but rooms were a poor standard, neglected and not clean.

Lovely hotel, lovely staff and perfect for Scafell Pike
Pros:

I used this hotel as I was doing the three peaks and it is literally at the bottom of the path up Scafell Pike. A nice friendly hotel with restaurant and bar and just what I wanted. The beer was great with some local real ales although I did not eat at the hotel as arrived quite late.

I was expecting to arrive by 8pm but got delayed by traffic and when it got to 8:55 I got a call from the hotel just checking I was stiill coming and when I said I was about 15 minutes away they offered to make me some food as the restaurant was closing at 9pm. I did not take them up on this but it was a lovely gesture and staff were very welcomming when I did arrive.

Room was very comfortable and clean and there was tea/coffee stuff in the room. Single room prefect for a a lone traveller and could not have been more ideal for Scafell Pike.

Wonderful historic, old fashioned hotel for those who appreciate such things
Pros:

Grand historic hotel full of character in the residents' section. Loved all the pictures on the walls of famous British rock climbs, local climbers and the golden age of Alpinism. Beautiful dining room and comfortable residents' lounge with a great library of Alpine Club journals. My single room was fine with a comfortable bed, old fashioned wooden furniture, clean bathroom (with large bath), TV, kettle/tea/coffee, bed lamp. Wifi good everywhere. Excellent breakfast with good menu choice. Public bar is very pleasant with reasonable range of bar meals and excellent real ale on tap. Pleasant outdoor drinking areas by the river. Receptionist and bar staff all very pleasant and helpful
Some people have complained about the old furnishings and carpets. Ignore them - this is an old fashioned hotel with character and history. If you don't like that sort of thing and want somewhere modern then go elsewhere. Plenty of old inns in the Lakes have been bought up by corporate organisations and had the life refurbished out of them. They might suit you better
Long may this place retain its character

Cons:

The window didn't stay open which was a nuisance as it was a hot night.
I was lucky to get a saver deal so the price was fair. Otherwise I think the rooms tend to be rather overpriced in general which is why I have waited a long time to stay here. If the hotel promotes more saver midweek deals then I will be back

Wonderful, simply wonderful
Pros:

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at for staff, location, food and price. It was my 60th birthday and the receptionist gave me a free room upgrade which was a wonderful act of kindness after a particularly difficult day.

Spectacular!
Pros:

The location was extraordinary. At the absolute end of a long winding road sandwiched between amazing dry stone walls, the beautiful lake and the incredible mountains.

The staff were amazing. Florence the waitress who runs everywhere to make sure tables are cleared and hot food is delivered, receptionist Sophie was so friendly. We felt that her genuine awe of being in this historic inn was still so fresh.

We stayed for 3 days and with a restricted diet of being vegetarian and only being fed by Wasdale inn, we could have a range of fresh delicious food.

Cons:

Having to leave!

Amazing location, bags of atmosphere, good pub food
Pros:

Stunning location, amazing views, a timeless feel, good pub meals, and a good take away breakfast that powered us to the top of Scafell Pike. We liked our double room and the kids loved the triple room they stayed in. Other features include the adjacent shop with useful hiking supplies and the stream at the back where we cooled our feet.

Cons:

It’s quite expensive - but worth it for its unique atmosphere and amazing location

Pros:
