I booked this hotel as an overnight stop after a long journey and unfortunately found the whole experience unnecessarily stressful. I arrived at around 21:00, having already paid for my stay in full. At reception I was then required to provide a £50 damage deposit/pre-authorisation, which would only be released after the room had been inspected following check-out. I travel and stay in hotels very frequently and have never encountered this at an ordinary three-star hotel. What made this particularly frustrating was the condition of the room itself. The carpet showed considerable wear, the bathtub was scratched and worn, and the shower-curtain rail was visibly rusty. If a hotel is going to hold £50 of a guest’s money against possible damage, I would expect either a proper check-in inspection or some record of the room’s existing condition. Guests are apparently expected to trust the hotel to decide afterwards whether damage has occurred, while the hotel demonstrates very little trust in the guest. The accommodation was also in a separate building a considerable distance from reception. After carrying my luggage to reception, I then had to put everything back into the car, drive to the other building and unload it all again. There was no lift, so I then had to carry heavy luggage upstairs. After a long day of travelling, this was the opposite of the straightforward overnight rest I had expected. The Wi-Fi was another irritation. To connect, I was required to provide personal details including my email address and telephone number and was presented with terms stating that personal information, including information about my device and how I used the Wi-Fi, would be collected by the hotel and its Wi-Fi provider. I found this unnecessarily intrusive simply to access Wi-Fi that is provided as part of a hotel stay, and I therefore stopped using it. There was also a strong unpleasant smell in the courtyard when I arrived. I would not stay here again.

The staff were helpful and polite. Rooms were clean and modern with usual facilities
The shower head was very small and water pressure was very low
We stayed as we were at a bbq at friends for the day. Good night's sleep and a nice breakfast in the morning.
