Gym swimming and other facilities are in the different building
It’s ideally situated for work meetings at the Open University. Staff were friendly and helpful.
The decor is a little tired. Signage around the property is poor and it’s easy to get lost. The dining is extremely limited - for dinner you are forced to pay 22 GBP for a 3-course option. There is no way to get a lighter option. On the second night of my stay there was a large church group meaning that much of the fruit and salad bar was empty in the evening and the next morning there were huge queues at breakfast.
Great welcome by staff
Everything about the accommodation
The breakfast when it's a buffet breakfast you don't expect to be limited on what you can and can't have. Paying £335 for 2 nights with breakfast included
The breakfast service was particularly disappointing. Although this was advertised as a buffet breakfast, the servers appeared unnecessarily restrictive and overreactive when guests took more than one sausage or more than one fried egg. This created an uncomfortable and embarrassing atmosphere for what should have been a relaxed buffet breakfast experience.
We also spoke to the restaurant manager, who was covering the role of hotel manager during our stay. He told us that they “get a lot of complaints because Kents Hill is not a hotel.” We found this concerning because it appeared to be used to explain or minimise the issues we had raised with him. We were also repeatedly given the explanation that the property is a training centre. We do not believe that being a training and conference centre should mean that guests should accept poor cleanliness, inadequate maintenance, excessive noise or a lower standard of accommodation.
The overall impression was that the property was not being managed or maintained to the standard we would reasonably expect from accommodation being sold as a hotel stay on Booking.com.
Unfortunately, there were numerous issues during our stay, which together had a significant impact on the experience:
The room was not clean to an acceptable hotel standard.
The mattress was visibly stained.
The carpet was dirty, including areas underneath the bed.
The bathtub had visible dirt/staining around the edges.
The shower head was dirty.
The toilet seat had visible yellow staining.
The toilet and bathroom fixtures showed signs of inadequate cleaning.
The bathroom ventilation grille was visibly dirty.
The sink and bath/shower drains were dirty.
The bathroom tap was dirty and showed significant build-up.
The mug and spoon provided in the room were dirty.
The bathroom bin was dirty.
There was dirt and staining around furniture and bedside areas.
Some room fixtures and fittings appeared poorly maintained.
There were issues with the wall socket/cable and other fittings.
The lift was dirty, including the floor and interior.
There was considerable noise during the night, including people running through the corridors, screaming and knocking on doors, which disturbed our sleep.
There was also significant noise from work being carried out in the garden during breakfast time.
A rat was seen in the garden.
The advertised/expected spa experience was disappointing. The spa was not actually within the hotel premises but was located in another building.
The facility was a busy local Nuffield Health club rather than a dedicated hotel spa, and it was very busy and did not provide the relaxing spa experience we expected.
Overall, the standard of cleanliness, maintenance, noise levels and facilities did not match the expectations created when booking or the price paid. The individual issues may appear minor when considered separately, but the cumulative effect was significant and resulted in a very disappointing stay.
Breakfast was good, close to where we needed to go and swimming facilities
Blinds dusty, bed was hard and headboard was hazard. Staff not overly friendly.
Everything
Nothing
Rooms are spotless, if a little basic - but that's what you expect at the price being paid. Some of the people using the car park need to learn to drive, or at least recognise what the significance of a white line is in the setting...but theres still plenty of space in general
Depending on how long you are staying for, but the breakfast is the same every day and the options don't change. That said, you will pay more and get worse in some hotels in MK. Also, its questionable what relevance night club music is at breakfast some days. Minor gripes but still good vfm.
Aircon during this summer wouldn't go a miss but windows do open and there is generally a fan.
The inclusion of all the facilities and food was an excellent addition to our stay. Very comfortable beds and pillows.
Access to bar, health centre with pool, sauna and steam room
Could do with updating in the rooms, aka better showerheads and tv
Easy parking, good size dining facility and outdoor spaces
Booked two double rooms with 4 adults , Only 1 set of towels per room bath and hand towel
