The rooms were excellent and very clean
The dining menu was to fussy there was nothing traditional or simple to chose from
Location and pub were fantastic. All the staff were super friendly and very efficient. There was a great atmosphere here.
The evening food was of a very high standard although seemed more epensive than I was expecting. The brealfast was a bit disappointing. Bacon not crispy and portions on a small side. Great staff though.
The staff were all absolutely great, friendly, communicative, constantly on the go (no slacking here!), and got things done. It would be unfair to single any staff member out by name, so I won't.
The food was exceptional, our evening choice of Roast partridge, celeriac tart, pickled walnut, smoked shallot and new potatoes with cafe de paris butter absolutely sublime.
To cap it all for the first time in years at breakfast kippers were on offer at The Crown. Brilliant, well done The Crown. Last 5-10 years I'd given up enquiring at Hotels if they had kippers, they'd all stopped (too hard, no call for them, the smell offending guests etc. etc.
Room 5 Fallow at the front of The Crown was characterful, not huge but decent size.
Getting there was a NIGHTMARE!!, with electricty grid improvements being made for miles around with Road Closed notices at every turn. ( It appeared though that many of them could have been ignored, had we but known). The Crown are likely to improve their communication on this score by email a few days before a Guest arrives, currently rather bland and tucked away at the end after inviting you to pre-book champagne etc.
The shower controls needed 10/10 vision and strong fingers to get the water from near scalding to warm.
The bedside lamp operation also had its indiosyncracies. (Claire knows how to sort it out).
The Crown is pricey BUT the quality of food and lodgings is commensurate. Well done everyone, and thankyou very much.

The window in the bedroom didn't open so the room was a bit stuffy overnight. It needs airflow
It was very convenient for Lavenham. The hotel was quaint and had character. The food was excellent. I was upgraded from a single to a double room and it was very comfortable.

This is not a criticism but my pork was over cooked which is easy to do but the flavour was spot on and I still cleaned the plate

Couldn’t fault anything
Staff were friendly and attentive, there seemed to be a good workplace community. Room had everything I needed, and the bed was comfortable.
Room was not very soundproof but the hotel was quiet at night so this wasn't a big problem :)
A very good choice of breakfast. All served to table, which made it a bit slow but as we were not in a rush it didn't matter.
The evening dinner menu was very good and our choice, the fish, was really inventive and delicious, as were the snacks and starters. Good wines. Lovely bedroom and a sweet village to have evening walks around.
Everybody was very friendly and happy to chat. Little or no commercialisation to spoil the restful atmosphere.
Both dinner and breakfast service could have been a little more organised, we seemed to be waiting around, or trying to locate staff. Perhaps they were short staffed.
(Unfortunately the whole of the road in front of the hotel was out of bounds because of protracted excavations for utilities works. Although the staff were very helpful with information, the detour round country roads must have been tedious for regulars, and damaging for business over all. This was entirely OK for us but just bad luck for the whole village.)
