For the comfort of other diners, the hotel requests that children under 5 years do not dine in the restaurant in the evening.
Please be aware that if the main hotel is fully booked, a room will be reserved for you in Rillside Lodge which is located in the same grounds. The Lodge is located just 50 yards from the main hotel reception with its own private parking and can be accessed via the hotel gardens on foot or via the road running alongside the hotel by car. The only difference between the lodge and the hotel is that guests come across to the hotel for meals.

Lovely luxury hotel in a great location to explore Grasmere and the surrounding fells

The building is ideal and easy to live in. The garden is superb, both in construction and maintenance; it was a delight to sit out in.
In spite of problems (see below), we really enjoyed our stay in this hotel.
They just did not cater for vegetarians! As Booking.com knows, I visit a lot of hotels, and this was the first ever to have no vegetarian breakfast on the menu. They only provided some vegeytarian sausages for our second breakfast, as they had none for our first one. We didn't dine there, as the menus were uninteresting for vegetarians. I suspect that the chef has had no vegetarian catering training.
It was difficult to obtain a good coffee in the late evening. The coffee machines provided either failed to work, or they produced foul coffee. The bar's coffee machine closed down early.
Finally, on Sunday evening our keys failed to let us in the front door,
