Vang Vieng Sabai Sabai Hostel

Honestly, I don't understand how this hostel has such a high overall rating. After reading the most recent reviews, I noticed that many of them are actually quite negative, and unfortunately, my experience was similar.

The room had an unpleasant musty smell and the air inside was not very pleasant. I also noticed what looked like some mould near the bottom of the walls, so I was glad that I slept on the upper bunk. I also found small red stains on the bed sheets that looked like blood or possibly bed bug marks. Fortunately, I personally did not have any problems with bed bugs.

Another important point is that the hostel looks considerably better in the photos than it does in reality. The photos give a much nicer impression of the place than what I experienced.

The staff were also not particularly friendly. I had the feeling that once I mentioned that I wasn't planning to book any tours through the hostel, their attitude towards me became rather neutral. This is something I've noticed with some hostels in Southeast Asia: they offer relatively cheap accommodation to attract customers and then make additional money from tours and other activities.

I also used the laundry service, but unfortunately, my clothes were not ready at the promised time. When I finally received them the next day, they were still very damp, so I had to ask them to dry them again. I understand that the high humidity may have contributed to this, but in the end I still had to finish drying the clothes myself in the room.

Overall, I was quite disappointed when I arrived. I regretted not choosing one of the other, much better options in a similar price range and not checking the most recent reviews instead of relying mainly on the overall rating.

Personally, I would not stay here again. I believe there are much better options available.

Oh my gosh I think this is the worst hostel I’ve stayed at in my 7 months of travel… The bed sheets and blanket were filthy (highly doubt they were washed)- see pics for details. The pool was non existent, it was completely drained of water. And I know it’s the off season so it does explain it but I saw 2 guests my whole stay so if you’re looking to make friends also don’t stay.
The wifi was down the whole day till 6pm, and the aircon wasn’t turned on till the evening.
If you’re on the tightest budget ever and just need a room I guess you could stay but my lesson was learnt, just spend the extra $2 for a nicer stay. I left early and changed hostels.
On the bright side the person working the desk was nice.

La chambre qui nous avait été attribuée était catastrophique (odeur d’égout, pas de tuyau au niveau du lavabo, etc) mais le réceptionniste n’a pas discuté et nous a changé immédiatement de chambre. L’eau de la piscine était trouble …
Pas de nettoyage de chambre .. quand je suis allée demander pourquoi, on m’a dit qu’il fallait demander.. j’ai demandé et on m’a dit que c’était trop tard. Le prix n’est pas excessif, certes mais on peut trouver aisément mieux.

La propreté laisse à désirer. Piscine sale et non entretenue. Déjeuner très mauvais avec rien au menu.

La salle de bain pas très pratique. Peu de place entre l'évier, la douche et la toilette.
Paiement par carte 10 % en plus

Bastant brut, fa molt de temps que no es neteja darrera les tauletes de nit, i a la zona del restaurant sempre hi havia restes de menjar.

I hope they can maintain to tidy the area were guests put their footwears.

It felt a bit off season. Pool bar was not open, breakfast options very limited.

The rooms don’t lock so your room is open to anyone. Also the toilets were outside if you don’t have one in your room. The poles that hold the curtains for your bed also very easily fall.
