The Grand Hotel

Paint coming off wood. No handles on draws. No plug sockets next to bed. Only sockets were for TV and kettle. Wasn't worth £150 for one night. Toilet wouldn't flush properly. . Was on 4th floor and gave up waiting for lift.

168 bedrooms and they hadn’t got a spare pillow I asked at reception and was told they had none spare!!

Rude, unhelpful, petulant staff who greeted us on arrival then proceeded to gaslight and give conflicting accounts on why I had been overcharged for the pets to trying to convince us that I'd put my 15 year old son down as 5 years old and that as I'd booked a 'double room' and not a 'twin' they couldn't help us find an alternative room for a 36 year old man and a 15 year old boy who did not feel comfortable sharing one bed, even though they had availability. We pointed out that their childish attempts to prove they were right and we were wrong was doing little to resolve the situation. Shockingly, they then found us a room that was more expensive and tried to charge us extra for that room even though they owed us money. We requested to see a manager and the duty manager was sought. She found us a room but it was a downgrade, which we agreed to so that our 15 year old son and his uncle did not have to share a bed! The duplicity of it all was that they were so quick to charge us extra for an alternative room but didn't offer us the difference for the cheaper, downgraded room we settled on.
We also paid for half board, and that was a farce too. The website claims that breakfast is available between 7.30am - 9.30am, and the dinner was supposedly available from 5.30pm - 7.30pm however, they closed both services early so for the entire 2 night stay with a party of four the only meals we got was one breakfast for one person (and there was pretty much nothing left) a second breakfast on the second day for another member of our party and only one evening meal for one member of our party who reported that it was abysmal. We missed out on the night of our arrival and received no compensation for that either.

Parking is limited but not a problem

Our room was Premier and was very dusty, bathroom was clean and tidy but floor dusty,bed very uncomfortable mattress so thin like sleeping on the floor enjoyed

The hotel was scruffy . We couldn't get the wheelchair in the room . The food was diabolical. Absolutely disgusting with what we paid for that holiday break . I will never be staying again. The shower was useless .

I've had an ankle & knee operation & need extra pillows to feel comfortable at night. First hotel where I was told they could not supply extra pillows.So I took in my own pillows.instead of double head pillows, we only had single pillows.
Bed is supposed to be a double bed. Felt extremely narrow. We didn't sleep well at all as we were worried about falling out.
Restaurant staff were friendly but the food was mainly fried or from cans. Unimaginative menu. The desserts were a major improvement.
The hotel is a lovely Victorian building that need to be maintained & kept clean. The dining room corners have cobwebs & the windows everywhere need to be cleaned. Lots of TLC needed.
Fantastic location with the sea coming in with tide.

Very run down especially the balconies which were filled with
Of cigarette ends.
We could smell cannabis on our landing

No complaints at all.
