Location
When we arrived, we were told restaurant was shut at 4pm when website and internal signage said open until 5:30pm. This forced us to find alternative dining arrangements.
Nothing to highlight - young lady working was very polite
I was disappointed by my stay, particularly given the lack of follow-up after a serious issue. On arrival, I found cannabis and drug paraphernalia in my room. I reported this immediately to the receptionist, who appeared unsure how to deal with the situation. I expected a manager or senior member of staff to contact me, but this never happened.
The receptionist herself was doing her best, but throughout my stay she appeared to be the only front-of-house employee, covering reception, the bar and table service on both the evening of my arrival and the following morning. She was clearly overstretched.
The room itself was also disappointing. The mattress was extremely old and worn, with the springs easily felt through it, and the bed creaked every time I moved, making for a very uncomfortable night's sleep.
Overall, the lack of cleanliness, poor communication, and uncomfortable accommodation made this a very disappointing experience.
I tried twice to speak with staff since leaving via email and had no reply.
Room at the top of hotel, very quaint in 1600s building. Well appointed. Kind thought of putting fan in room . When we checked in lovely member of staff at reception and bar. Still only one member of staff but vg.
Showering over the bath was a little difficult as sloping roof, okay for shorter people. Breakfast was a farce, one member of staff having to take your order, replenish, clear tables, do reception. Waited 35 mins for cooked breakfast, after having given time of our breakfast. Breakfast and the morning member of staff let down our lovely experience of staying at the Scole.
Very friendly staff.
This was supposed to be a deluxe room but was nothing like. Decor was poor and the facilities were nonexistant. The continental breakfast was nothing more than cereal, fruit juice and toast. Service was slow and several breakfast items were out of stock.
Reception and Bar staff extremly helpful. Also not to mention chef as well.
We had made an assumption, based on the establishment being a hotel that Kitchen would not close - so we arrived pretty much 'too-late' for food, however they really did help to resolve the issue
We took the option for half-board, but we never noticed that breakfast timings were outside of our required timings - So we never managed to make use of the half-board breakfast as it was from 08:00 onwards. :-(
I doubt very much booking.com will offer any compensation for not stating this clearly
The one member of staff who seemed to have to do everything was overworked but really competent. Cleaning staff were helpful and friendly.
Terrible policies of charging for early check in - even to simply change for a wedding. Windows didn’t open, boiling hot room, only one bedside lamp.
Good outside deck, fridge in room
No drinking water, only 1 opening window, mattress too soft
Great value and historic
Had no hot water on my last stay. And this was in a superior room
The period of it and the features
The location
On arrival, the room was full of cobwebs and dust. There was mould in the shower, and worst of all, there was poo left in the toilet.
Breakfast was o.k not a lot of choice for continental
The floor tiles in the bathroom were broken and loose and coul quite easily cut your feet. The staffing level is clearly an issue,The staff were brilliant but clearly had to many tasks to perform resulting in lengthy waiting times for customers.
Morgan was brilliant
Hot , stuffy , hot water came from cold tap . They got in a muddle over bar bill .
Accommodation was good, clean with comfortable bed and a nice ensuite. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good breakfast.
Communication poor, slow wifi, low mobile signal strength and no Freeview TV. Restaurant atmosphere (Greek) could have been better, food was disappointing.
