Beautifully appointed and we had the same room as we had two years ago when we last passed through. Nothing had changed and it was like returning to an old friend.
Nothing
A gorgeous former convent in the heart of Gundagai . Management were most accommodating with my last minute date change and walking distance to a lovely pub meal at the Criterion Hotel. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated.
Nothing
Bright spacious
Private, romantic, super clean and very close to town.
The mattress, though comfy was a weird pyramid shape. I kept rolling away from my partner.
Room / accommodation was good.
Location was perfect for a nice short leisurely walk to local eateries & a nice quiet place away from busy main roads. We only used it as a overnight stop over, so am unable to comment much more about the property.
Can't really say that we dislike anything in particular, it had what we needed for our very short overnight stay
The sympathetic renovation of a lovely old house.
No staff there !
Love the character of the old convent building and garden, and the well designed renovation and tasteful decoration.
The floor tiles in the bathroom are lethal and are in fact wall tiles misused.
When wet they are as slippery as ice and will almost certainly cause an accident.
Great proximity to the town.
Our room was very noisey. We were constantly woken by the people upstairs. We could hear them talking, moving about and snoring!
Our room had no external windows.
A few teabags and a thimble of milk felt very inadequate for the price per night.
There was no housekeeping during the stay.
Easy access. Well equipped. Beautiful room with stunning bay window. Convenient location.
Beautiful decoration
Difficult to find, poor signage, paths difficult at night, slippery bathroom floors
Clean and comfortable, pretty spot
More lights and signage would have been good for arriving in the dark
Splendid renovated historic building near the centre of town.
Only had light curtains on the front glass windowed door. The room didn't feel particularly private for this reason. The morning light just streamed through the light curtains at first light.
No chance for a sleep in.
I also had numerous emails and texts wanting me to check-in days out from my arrival. These emails and texts also wanted my credit card details. I didn't advise these details until my arrival. There was a $100.00 amount put onto my credit card for mini bar costs. I didn't use any items from the mini bar. I expect this $100.00 will be credited back to my credit card.
There were small flying insects in the room attracted by the room lights during the night.
I would appreciate being contacted by Booking.com to discuss this accommodation.
Thank you, Noel
This place is good, probably the best in Gundagai from what I could see online, but with a few simple changes, it could be great.
The location is excellent, the building is full of character, and everything was spotlessly clean. We upgraded to a Superior King Room, which was a good size, and the bed was comfortable (OK the side near the door was a bit saggy…guessing its due for replacement soon)
But here’s where it could improve.
The chairs in the room look fantastic, a stylish wicker design , but they’re almost impossible to sit in comfortably for an evening. No amount of rearranging cushions made them comfortable for more than 10–15 minutes. A couple of proper tub chairs or similar would make a huge difference.
The TV placement is another issue. It faces directly into the room from one corner, but not toward the seating area, so you either sit at an awkward angle trying to watch it or move the chairs apart from each other. A swivel mount on the TV would solve this instantly.
On the topic of the TV, the room advertises “streaming services like Netflix,” but you still need to log into your own accounts , something that sadly seems more common these days. At least SBS and ABC catch-up apps were installed.
The fridge is barely a fridge at all, really more of a wine cooler. It simply doesn’t get cold enough to safely store basics like butter or yoghurt for breakfast.
Which leads to another point: would a toaster really be too much to ask? It would be great to grab some bread from the local bakery (which looks very good), toast it in the morning, and enjoy it with local jam and properly chilled butter. There’s certainly enough room for one.
Finally, an extension lead or small power board would help enormously. There’s a nice SMEG kettle for tea and coffee, but the only accessible outlet means you have to unplug the electric blanket and move the kettle to the bedside table just to use it.
That’s really it. As I said, it’s already a good place, and with a few thoughtful
