We didn’t eat at the property, the location was great.
The room was dirty and dusty with cobwebs everywhere on the inside of the windows, there was glass on the floor, the towels and robes were crispy and hard, no water pressure to take a reasonable shower or bath, coffee, tea and milk not stocked up, no soap in the bathroom. Definitely not a 5star.

Situated on Epping High Street but with a car park to the rear, the place has a great feel to it. The room we stayed on made the most of the original layout of the building and managed to include private bathroom which was small but absolutely fine

We booked a deluxe double room. Although the room was comfortable enough, it was very small with plugs in the wrong places for any real purpose. The rain shower in the room lacked any pressure and appeared broken.

The bathroom and sink was dirty. I could see the dirt inside the holes and the bathroom glass door didnt shut all of the water was going outside.
Has its own quirky, but lively style. Staff were excellent and the food in the restaurant was fabulous.

An utterly odd experience.
The room was apparently an upgraded room, however it was very small with one tiny frosted window and so no daylight. If that was an upgrade I'd have been very upset with whatever space I was meant to have.
I was told the restaurant was shutting at 9pm that evening, but I had a table booked at 8:45pm. I was happy to eat sooner though, so I did. The restaurant looks great and the menu was brilliant. Just after getting my food, a girl came in to sit with a staff member. She was incredibly upset and shouting and crying about some "fat c*nts" who had upset her. This continued for the duration of my meal and made me really on edge. The staff member to whom she was crying did nothing to take her away from the one customer they had, which surprised me.
In the morning the cleaners knocked on my door at 11 asking me when I was leaving and why I was still there as they need to clean the room. Checkout is clearly listed as 12pm on my booking. I gathered my stuff and left quickly, only to find no one downstairs at all and the reception area locked. I had to leave my key with a chef after calling into the kitchen through an open side door.
All in all not great and disappointing.

The Funky Monk Hotel is an exceptional place to stay and genuinely stands out from the ordinary. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the hotel’s unique character, beautiful design and wonderfully stylish atmosphere.
The attention to detail throughout is superb, creating a luxurious yet relaxed environment that feels both special and welcoming. My room was beautifully presented, extremely comfortable and immaculately clean, making it a pleasure to return to and a fantastic place to relax.
What really makes the Funky Monk memorable is its personality. It has a distinctive charm and individuality that you simply don’t find in conventional hotels. The whole experience felt thoughtfully put together, with a wonderful combination of comfort, style, atmosphere and hospitality.
A truly impressive hotel and an absolute gem. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would happily return without hesitation. If you’re looking for somewhere stylish, memorable and a little different, the Funky Monk is an outstanding choice. Highly recommended!

The decor was nice.
The pillows were like smoke shaped like a pillow. You put your head on them and they vanish.
The hotel is very quirky with a mix of old (beam cottage feel) and modern decor! It’s clean and has everything you need including a mini bar. The weather was nice when we went and they have a lovely outside space.
How the room looked was nice
In the weekend so on Friday and Saturday evening it turns into a club no mention of that anywhere sleeping is impossible until like 1.30am then we switched hotels like a day earlier because we couldn’t stay there for another night
