Very nice , but could do better
Pros:

Great price , paid £361 for 5 nights including breakfast, bargain I thought , great location with very short drive to the Mere Oak park and ride , visited Widnes garden center , on the outskirts skirts of M25 , good day out , day in Reading , and visited Vue Cinema ( not very hospitable) and the big shopping center , which was good

Cons:

Very busy place so parking can be challenging , can be confusing which building your in , glad we asked at the mansion house before we unloaded all the bags , the grass on the golf course was scorched, like everywhere , the heat may have also contributed to the 7.30 am fire alarm , we went out side , very few people seamed to bother ! After about 30 minutes the alarm stopped and we were allowed back in , the rooms didn’t have air conditioning but there was a very good fan THANK YOU , lovely room with , couple of chairs and desk ,but no refrigerator, which is definitely needed with the current heat wave (August 2026) . Nice shower , the glass screen had one of the hinge pins nearly falling out , (room 262)and you couldn’t double lock the door from inside , although the outside handle didn’t operate the lock unless used with the key card , so quiet safe . We only had one meal in the very nice restaurant, I think the choice on the menu was very limited , and two pasta dishes , one portion of garlic bread with 2 drinks for £77 was expensive, and 45 minutes to an hour wait wasn’t impressive, people arrived after us ate their meals and left before us I do feel there missing a trick, just a couple of bits of garlic bread with the pasta would have really added to the value and saved me £9 . And a non discretionary service charge always grates with me . I did find breakfast a little bit average, the reason for no hash browns or fried eggs was to reduce fat intake , but the real reason was to keep the deep fat fryers of , and reduce the electricity bill , so only scrambled eggs , ( I did ask for poached eggs on my last day , which were delicious, should have asked earlier) the rest of the food was kept “warm” under lamps , BUT. The glass covers on the top of the trays of bacon , sausage beans etc actually stopped any of the heat getting to the food , so it was definitely not staying hot , but going chilled, would have loved a black pudding, or options of kippers , even wit

Nice hotel with room for improvement
Pros:

Location is beautiful, this was our 4th stay at this hotel and it’s always lovely walking around the beautiful grounds. Kids play area is a great touch.
Lovely reception lady who has offered to change rooms and gave us complimentary chocolate and voucher.
Food is nice and room price is good value for money.

Cons:

Our pet friendly hotel room wasn’t cleaned up to the standard. Stains on the carpet and on the bed quilts. Lovely reception lady did offer a different room, unfortunately it was too small for the party of 3+ the dog.
We decided to stay in the same room to have a bit more comfort as it had an extra bed.
The room is located right next to the double door leading to other floors and most residents have to pass it to go into their room.
I found it very noisy and uncomfortable as guest were slamming doors and making lots of noise throughout the night when they were going back into their rooms via this entrance. This resulted in poor sleep and no rest. I did mention this to the reception when checking out.
I was promised that I will be contacted and offered a complementary gesture, however no one contacted me.

Good value with the breakfast.
Pros:

I liked the little extras in the hotel, like a ping pong table and reading books as well as game machines ..lots of seating areas.

Cons:

I didn't like the fact that people were parked in the electric car charging spots, we had great difficulty trying to charge our car after a long journey ..told reception and they didn't seem to care.

A lovely place to stay if you can
Pros:

Friendly staff at all times. My room was on the second floor in the Mansion House, and if you like "Downton Abbey", you'll like this place a lot! The rooms are clean and comfy with everything you need, and have a Victorian/Edwardian feel to the decoration. Full breakfast was included. Lots of places to go for a stroll around the estate, as well as the golf. Fantastic price and fantastic value for money. It's a place that you'd like to share with someone.

Cons:

Nothing at all to dislike. I didn't have a car with me, and even the stroll up the drive to the front gates to be picked up by my daughter was a joy.
