We came by bike and were given space in a garage to keep them a little more secure (for anybody reading this and thinking of bringing expensive bikes, note that the garage was unlocked so check before you book). Grounds still lovely. Swimming pools good. Staff polite.
In the room: Bathroom sink hot tap seized, power extension lead not working, coffee machine leaks hot water while in use. It seems unlikely that all these things failed for the first time during our stay and the attitude of the person when I reported this on checkout was dismissive
It took three requests to get decaf coffee pods for the room
General feeling that maintenance is being skimped (compared to last time we stayed)
The poor sauna (a two-man box in the men's changing room) and no steam room or cold plunge/shower is inadequate for a place that markets itself as a spa hotel
Breakfast was good
Service in the bar for food was really slow and also food was not good value
Breakfast and dinner were superb. Staff very attentive.
no swimming costume spinner one could be placed in the changing rooms. No shower in pool area or water machines.
Beautiful period property with amazing garden to walk around. Had a great stay stay with our newborn. Very family friendly. Lots of families with kids, babies and expectant families
No air on in the room
It’s and old hotel with character
Lovely gardens
Needs a lot of TLC
Beautiful inside and out. The grounds are stunning.
Was asked to move rooms because there was not a fan working in my room. The room I was put in was not as nice and I had to ask for a fridge. Hairdryer broke and the replacement that I was given had a European plug. On the first night I went for a meal and mid meal I went outside to get some fresh air, because it was so hot and when I came back, my place had been cleared, including my wine!
Really beautiful grounds and the staff are lovely.
The food at supper was not great unfortunately.
Staff were friendly and attentive. Dinner was excellent as were the surroundings.
Inside pool area needs some tlc. As we were only there for one night, it was a little frustrating not to be able yo use the outside pool in the morning. Schedule says opens at 8am but due to treatment it didn't open till 10am. Minor irritation overall. We could have done with more milk pods in the room but guessing they would have been provided I we'd asked.
Big rooms and beautiful scenery
Staff members were not friendly
- Magnificent location
- Peaceful
- Room and facilities (indoor and outdoor pool) a bit tired
- No air conditioning in the room
- No mini bar in the room
- One of the 2 days we’ve been there we had the feeling the place was understaffed as there were many dirty plates, glasses around and no staff to collect orders or clean the tables
- Standard breakfast
The location was amazing!
The grounds are beautiful. We stayed on a sunny bank holiday weekend, and drinks on the outdoor terrace in the evening sun were pure bliss. We had a large party with us, and the staff accommodated us with ease. Excellent service and good food from the bar. I was very pleasantly surprised by the standard of the rooms - we stayed in the courtyard (so away from the main building) but the rooms had been newly refurbished to a high standard and were incredibly spacious. Molton Brown toiletries were a lovely touch. My family really enjoyed the outdoor pool, which was warm as a bath.
There seems to be some integration issues between Booking.com and the hotel booking system. I booked multiple rooms for our party, and upon clicking through to payment, they defaulted to single occupancy (which I had clearly not selected) which caused some faff at check in. This happened randomly on 2-3 of the 10 rooms I booked, and was a pain to resolve through Booking.com.
