Excellent position close to promenade and beach.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Very clean, attentive staff and overall a great nights sleep.
It’s a lovely hotel in excellent location. But as with all hotels of this age it’s a bit tired. However it was nice and clean and comfortable.
The location and it’s good that it had a car park.
My room was like an oven. They provided no water in the room or biscuits. When I asked for a fan they said they had none as other guests were using them .. I felt when I arrived that the Man on Reception was condescending like he was doing me a huge favour by letting me stay there despite me paying what I think was over the odds for a boiling hot basic room with no breakfast included. I think couples were preferred to be honest. The soap dispenser on the wall was almost empty too. No plug points by the bed either .
Location was brilliant! Close to the town, restaurants and beach
No Expresso for breakfast!
Great setting. By the beach, large grounds.
The hotel has "signs of the past" - an old ballroom where 40+ years ago people would have danced.
You could see many guests were "returners".
Good parking and close to the marina
Managed to take a photo in the same sport where my uncle Flannan posed 90 years ago, towel in hand from a swim
From a value for money perspective, it is hard to complain, but some investment to refresh the fabric would be welcome.
Not sure it would work these days, but getting the ballroom back in action with some dances would be quite something
Decent size room with comfortable beds, easily accessed from reception and nicely decorated. Absolute boon of floor-mounted fan in bedroom, although window wouldn't stay open. Lots of towel/clothes hanging in en suite. 4 grab-bars in bath/shower, making access safer. Beautiful restaurant/ballroom. Good breakfast, though some wait for top-ups to buffet. Staff friendly, efficient and helpful. NO DOGS ALLOWED IN RESTAURANT! Nice outdoor sitting/drinking areas looking to sea close by. Lots of parking on site. Fire doors closed gently, not with a bang. No creaky floors.
Bar drinks selection poor. With exception of beds, room furniture saw better days in last millenium. Bathroom also somewhat dated. Shabby external appearance.
The room was ok. Dinner was nice and the serving staff were pleasant and helpful. the position of the hotel was on the sea front so this was nice to wander there after dinner.
There were no bedside tables and the mattress was hard.
I wanted to leave early the next day at 7.am. I waited in the reception until 7.30 am then spoke with the night porter who said that the morning staff were not available until 8.am. He said that he would pass my card onto the day staff for my invoice to be forwarded on.
Prrfect location on the promenade near beach. Hotel has a beautiful big garden and rooms for pets to stay. Enjoyed the breakfast
Location to town and beach
Good location and reasonable charges for parking.
Really rundown
Rusty grab rail in bath and cracks in bath
Beds lumpy
Window not secure
When we made a complaint, it was not handled politely and there was no apology. I will be emailing the manager as I had a very unsatisfactory response on checkout.
Having stayed here in a much nicer room on two other occasions this was such a poor experience, I would definitely not book again. I had face-to-face conversations with three members of staff who were alll very abrupt and rude.
Beautiful building - just a little tired looking , lovely staff and perfect location
The Hotel is such a wonderful place to stay, it’s like coming home. It’s got such character, a wonderful ambiance. From Lucien, reception staff, restaurant, bar staff and housekeeping they all do whatever they can to make your stay a very happy one. I always look forward to returning. Highly recommended.
There is nothing that I didn’t like, I return on a regular basis.
Great position and lovely helpful staff. Garden and balconies excellent.
From the outside it probably could do with a lick of paint but it’s a minor detail.
Rooms feel older and a little dated - still very 1980s - same can be said for the rat of the property
The bar area was very pleasant and the outside beer garden lovely in the sunshine, but again the outside needs a fair bit of up dating.
The Dining room(only had breakfast) was again pleasant and serviceable, and the buffet breakfast offered a good selection for all.
Wouldn't say there was anything we DIDNT like, just fairly underwhelmed by a property which with a little more effort on updating, cleaning and offering something for a younger clientele would see it move into the new millennium
good location, clean rooms and parking
a bit jaded for the cost
The room was large enough with ensuite bathroom. Tea & Coffee making facilities.
Fantastic view over the gardens and out over the promenade to the sea.
Typical buffet breakfast which was good.
Staff attentive and friendly.
It was very warm and a mini fridge in the room would have been ideal.
The hotel has seen better days and needs a good refurb to bring it back to it's best.
It still looks magnificent but let down by little details.
Our main gripe was the chairs in the restaurant. The fabric on most of them was worn and stained and not appealing to sit on at all.
Breakfast ok location very good
Excellent location, professional and friendly staff!
Before check-in I asked for a fan and an iron. Everything was fulfilled! They checked us in 45 minutes before 3 pm! The room was clean. I pre-ordered their afternoon tea with a bottle of champagne - everything was fulfilled perfectly: we had a table with a sea view and good, cold French champagne!
For a hotel with over 100 years of history, everything was ok!
Location
Needs to be refurbished staff looked unprofessional and spent more time chatting to each other than guest's room was clean but design of windows could not get any air in to cool room down. The restaurant was lovely breakfast was nice staff appearance unprofessional dinner menue repetitive if staying longer than 1 night.no smoking on balcony near bar should be addressed as smoke drifts into bar. This hotel has a prime site and would be well worth plowing money into but at the moment the gardens and look is letting it down
