Room was tired and hotel has no lift and children are only allowed to use the pool for a limited time.
Although we informed the hotel of our time of arrival, On arrival we had to wait 15 minutes with no one to even be there to welcome us. We had to walk to the restaurant and ask for someone to call the receptionist. When he arrived, he didn’t even say sorry and simply said “I was showing the previous customer their room” and that was our greeting.
At 1:45 the smoke alarm went off for about 15-20 seconds which made us get up and head to the corridor but a member of staff told us to return to our room but we had no further explanation on what happened! Although from then for a long period of time, staff were running up and down the corridor which made me stay awake till 3:40 worrying if my child will be ok on the top floor of the building.
At 5:30 the phone to our room rang and stopped again! I assumed it was related to the alarm so I called the receptionist and he replied “I did not call you”. Again no apologies in anyway why the phone randomly rang!
At checkout I asked the receptionist what happened last night and what was the alarm for?
He replied “we’re still investigating but don’t panic?!!!”
Well I did…. Throughout the night….
The historical factor and fantastic period renovation.
Very comfy bed and lovely grounds to explore. Fantastic Tudor buildings
Bentley owner now revving their engine at 7:00 in the morning outside our window.
Everything was absolutely perfect, amazing location & surrounding nature, lovely staff! The spa was very nice as well!
We also really loved being the tudor hall later at night to read, play games or just unwimd. Lovely stay all around.
Lunch and dinner were excellent and reasonably priced for the quality of food. Room adequate.
The property could be lovely but would need major investment
A lot. The entrance road in was very poorly maintained. Large pot holes. The outside areas lacked attention. No flowers and colour and really poorly maintained too. Reception area not very welcoming. The carpet on stairs up to bedroom was worn, not clean and had not been vacuumed. The bedroom finishes were not 5 star quality. All seemed mismatched. The quality of fixtures in room was of poor quality. Windows in room extremely dirty. The curtains and pelmets in room were again not the quality for a 5 star experience. Food in restaurant poor. And quality of fixtures in dining room not fitting to the standard expected for the price paid. Staff not welcoming and seemed disinterested. Overall very disappointed especially when price paid was for 5 star experience.
Everything was excellent. Had dinner which was amazing when we arrived after travelling all day, room was lovely and air conditioned. Spa was excellent, breakfast was lovely. Setting is really relaxing.
Nothing, mobile signal poor but is that a bad thing?
The property is located in a beautiful spot, with a nearby lake. The building is stunning and the history behind it adds to the stay. The spa was clean and well presented, with modern decor.
This isn’t a reflection on the property itself, but there were a lot of flies outside when drinking which made us move inside to eat. Unfortunately, flies were still there. Although I’m aware this beyond the comfort of the hotel, possibly some fly traps or citronella nearby would help.
Location, history and the huge room!
Only the smoked salmon at breakfast. Everything was excellent
