Big rooms, friendly staff. Nice Little bar to have a drink.
Obviously, the hotel can’t help the weather, but it was 36°, and not even a fan in the room.
The window was open, which letting a minimal draft.
For the price that was charged, the decoration is dated. Dusty skirting boards and age spots around bathroom. Breakfast not included.
Hospitality was great, very friendly and they accommodated my bike.
I understand they are in the process of upgrading the rooms which is needed. I found the mattress very uncomfortable - I could feel the springs so that need replacing.
As a couple staying at this hotel, we were really disappointed with our experience. The hotel looks far more run down than the photos suggest, which was misleading from the start. Considering the price we paid, it simply wasn'tworth the money.
The room and facilities felt very outdated. The bathroom was particularly unpleasant—the toilet is carpeted, which we found unhygienic and quite disgusting. There were stains on the bedside tables, and the overall cleanliness and maintenance left a lot to be desired. The mattress was also extremely soft and offered very little support, feeling as though the cheapest possible option had been bought, which made for an uncomfortable night's sleep.
Outside, the property looked neglected. There were weeds growing at the front, brooms and cleaning equipment left by the entrance, and the garden was in a poor state. The garden furniture was old, worn out, and unkempt, giving the whole place an unfriendly and unwelcoming appearance.
A shame because this is a beautiful old building. However there’s a big difference between preserving character and simply not maintaining a property. To us, it didn't feel charming—it just felt neglected and unkempt.
The room was also extremely hot and never seemed to cool down, making it very uncomfortable to sleep.
On the first morning, we found the kettle was dirty, so we couldn't use it. We asked for it to be cleaned, but by the second morning it had simply been returned to our room without actually being cleaned. As a result, we had to buy tea and coffee from the hotel bar instead, which was an unnecessary extra expense.
Overall, the hotel needs significant investment in cleanliness, maintenance, and presentation. It did not live up to the photos or the price charged, and unfortunately we wouldn't stay here again or recommend it to other couples looking for acomfortable break.
Breakfast was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpfu;/

The hotel was right in the village a lovely old place with a wonderful atmosphere, the staff were wonderful very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, we definitely wouldn't stay anywhere else when we are in Shepton Mallet.

Breakfast and food eaten on site was very good. Location is central for a few attractions and owners very friendly and welcoming.
Rooms ready for updating, Town very quiet and not many places to eat or drink.
In town, which was helpful for our ghost hunt at the prison there. Lovely staff and answered any questions we had. Room was comfortable and quiet. Got a good night's sleep. Had parking with plenty of spaces.
We booked the shrubbery because it is literally a 5 min walk ti the prison where we had booked ghost hunt. The reception is not manned 24hrs but they provide a front door key to allow for late nights out. The staff were super friendly and the food was gorgeous.
Not a complaint from my side but I can imagine people complaining about the size of the room but it was perfect for an overnight stay. We had an en suite, tea & coffee making facilities and a selection of pillows. Not sure what more you could expect to be honest.
