Very disappointing..
Pros:

The location was excellent, the staff were friendly but the breakfast was poor quality and no variety.

Cons:

The food could have been better and the booking system for breakfast was ridiculous for so few guests.

I would recommend it to friends
Pros:

Location ideal for Chatsworth House. Also by a footpath along the river and a very pleasant walk. Rooms were good..quite tight but they provided a kettle and tea/coffee and fresh milk available by reception. Delicious biscuits provided too…and a nightcap of port!
Staff friendly and helpful

Cons:

Service a little slow… we sat for meal at 7 but get any course for 45 mins.

Poor first impression, disappointing cleanliness, and no consideration from the hotel despite our concerns. * Overpriced
Pros:

I completely understand that your cancellation policy did not require you to issue a full refund on the day of check-in. However, what is most disappointing is the complete lack of understanding or goodwill shown in this situation.

The issue was never primarily about the lack of air conditioning. The real reason I chose not to stay was the overall cleanliness and condition of the property. My first impression on arrival was extremely poor. The entrance floor was sticky underfoot, the entrance smelled strongly of a bar, and the entire property looked tired and shabby. The staircase carpet also appeared dirty and worn. For a room costing almost £250 for one night, I expected the hotel to be spotless and well presented.

The condition of the communal areas was enough for me to lose confidence in the cleanliness of the accommodation. I therefore refused to view the room because I no longer felt comfortable staying there.

Although I understood your cancellation policy, I was extremely disappointed that neither the hotel nor Booking.com showed any consideration for the circumstances. Instead, I lost almost £250 and then had to pay again for alternative accommodation.

I booked a room at Casa Hotel in Chesterfield for £161, where the hotel was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. After the stress and disappointment of dealing with both Booking.com and The Devonshire Arms Baslow, it was a relief to finally have a restful stay.

The Devonshire Arms Baslow response stating that I “never even went to the room” ignores the real issue. The condition of the hotel’s entrance and communal areas gave me every reason to believe the standard throughout the property would not meet the expectations of a hotel charging this price. First impressions matter, and unfortunately the first impression was one of poor cleanliness and poor value for money.

Cons:

My first impression was extremely poor. The entrance floor was sticky, there was a strong bar smell, the property looked tired and shabby, and the staircase carpet appeared dirty. For almost £250 per night, I expected a clean, well-maintained hotel. I also regret not taking a photograph of the skip overflowing with rubbish at the entrance.

Convenient for Chatsworth and Haddon. Takes dogs.
Pros:

The Devonshire Arms is very close to both Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, which probably explains the room rates, on the high side for the category. Presumably quite a smart place when it was built in the local Peak District style, it has a faintly neglected feel, with incoherent interior design choices and odd pieces of furniture cluttering underused spaces between the pub and dinings areas and the rooms. The restaurant offers fairly standard English pub-type cooking and a decent cooked breakfast. Pets are accepted and there's parking at the rear. It is, of course, very convenient for visiting the two houses, and adequate for that.

Cons:

Could do with a thorough, but no doubt costly, revamp.

Pros:

Absolutely great stay. Arranged the breakfast time on check-in and next morning hot delish breakfast was served within minutes when we came down.
The room was clean, super comfy beds. Stayed for one night, absolutely loved it.
Had lunch in the pub too, the food is really really good and stuff super nice.

Lovely accommodation & ideal location
Pros:

It felt more like a hotel than a pub/restaurant & the terrace on the front where you could sit out & relax

Cons:

Arrangement of having to go downstairs to a fridge to fetch milk to put in coffee as left in the room ( there were no landing or sensor lights come on when one of us did have to go downstairs early to fetch it )
Coffee with breakfast was instant coffee put into a Burco boiler for self service which was really just coloured water-as there are only 11 bedrooms , surely individual pots of tea/coffee could be delivered to a small number of tables

Pros:

The room was fantastic! Nice and cosy. The staff was attentive and friendly. There was everything we needed in this room, and even more: we took a bath and enjoyed welcome drinks. The breakfast was also excellent. We would gladly return to this hotel during our next visit to Chatsworth House.

Overall very enjoyable. Would stay again if in the area.
Pros:

Little details added to comfort of room. Hot chocolate, fresh milk, port. Room was very small but as advertised and was comfortable. Breakfast was ok, not exceptional but tasty. Service was good. Dinner was perfectly adequate and good value for money. Bar was nice, well stocked and service was excellent and very friendly.

Cons:

Landing carpet was very stained. Decor was ok but jaded. Coffee at breakfast was not great and very little choice of cereal. Bread not great and toaster very very slow. Long wait for toast and there were only 6 couples in for breakfast at the same time as us. Pre ordered cooked breakfast was good with a good choice.
