Unfortunately, our experience at Hotel Imperial on Lake Garda was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING and we DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL!
We booked the hotel through Booking.com and selected a SPECIFIC ROOM based on the photos and description shown on the platform.
Upon arrival, we were offered a supposed “UPGRADE.” In reality, we were moved to an ANNEX OF THE HOTEL, OUTSIDE THE MAIN BUILDING, even though we had specifically booked a room in the MAIN HOTEL BUILDING according to the photos shown on Booking.com!
This was NOT AN UPGRADE. We had to ask to be moved to the room category and location that we had actually booked. Having to ask about this immediately after arrival was extremely uncomfortable and completely unnecessary.
BUT THE WORST PART HAPPENED AT CHECK-OUT!
The hotel staff informed us that our stay was allegedly NOT PAID FOR, even though the money had ALREADY BEEN CHARGED FROM OUR ACCOUNT through Booking.com!
Instead of contacting Booking.com themselves and simply clarifying the situation, the hotel DEMANDED THAT WE PAY FOR THE ENTIRE STAY AGAIN!
YES — THEY EXPECTED US TO PAY TWICE FOR THE SAME STAY!
The staff showed NO WILLINGNESS TO HELP, NO INITIATIVE TO CONTACT BOOKING.COM and NO REAL INTEREST IN RESOLVING THE PROBLEM. We had to deal with everything ourselves!
Fortunately, BOOKING.COM HANDLED THE SITUATION PROFESSIONALLY and clearly confirmed that OUR STAY HAD ALREADY BEEN PAID IN FULL.
The situation became so serious and absurd that Booking.com officially informed us that IF THE HOTEL STAFF TRIED TO PREVENT US FROM LEAVING THE PROPERTY, WE SHOULD CONTACT THE POLICE!
A guest should NEVER be put in a situation where they have to prove that they have already paid, defend themselves against being charged TWICE, contact Booking.com on their own, and even consider calling the POLICE just to be able to leave the hotel!
To make matters worse, the staff were UNHELPFUL. Instead of apologising and trying to resolve the problem.
DO NOT RECOMMEND
Beautiful view, gorgeous pool and really nice food
Staff were extremely robotic, when you enter the breakfast, they stood all there like the army, removing plates as soon as you take the last bite, very intrusive and the blond girl at breakfast was constantly arranging stuff at breakfast (while it was empty and nothing was taken), rolling her eyes at questions. Very uncomfortable experience with staff in breakfast, other staff were ok, especially the cleaners who were amazing. We are surprised they have 5 stars, as it did not feel like it. WiFi passwords expire and you have to ask for new ones constantly, outdated a bit, does not feel luxury.

The hotel has a lovely outdoor pool and jacuzzi, although the pool water is cool. Indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna looked in good order but we didn’t use them. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. We had a large room but it was a bit soulless. Plenty of towels, shampoo etc. Room was very clean and nice bedding.
For us the mattress wasn’t very comfortable, it wasn’t hard but it didn’t mould to one’s body so I had backache in the morning. One thing I normally avoid is the shower in the bath, we had this facility in our garden suite, as you get older it becomes more difficult to get in and out safely.
