This is the second time I've stayed at Hotel Praha. I was travelling to Poland and had to break my journey, and I decided to break it here because the hotel is just so beautiful. It was built in the first decade of the 20th Century in glorious Art Nouveau style, and it retains a lot of its original features despite a reconstruction in the 1950s. So it's a cultural monument in its own right.
Beyond that, the staff at reception were extremely friendly and willing to answer my silly tourist questions, especially when they concerned the hotel itself. The room was comfortable and spacious, with good water pressure in the shower and a great view from the balcony. And the breakfast was substantial.
The location of the hotel couldn't be better: it's located directly opposite the town hall (another historic building), on the town's main square. From the breakfast room you get a great view of that building plus the beautiful old city magistrate's office. This also means that you can find food any time you need it - on Sunday night after 9pm, I managed to get dinner although most of the city was quiet by that time.
Last thing: if you're travelling by public transport, you can easily get a tram to and from the hotel from the hlavni nadrazy (main railway station). It's three stops.
The air conditioning in the room was difficult to understand. It was warm outside and I wanted to cool down, but I couldn't make the air con work properly - the display was too confusing. It might be a good idea for the hotel to put a laminated piece of paper in all the rooms, explaining how to control the air con. That's the only less-than-positive thing I can say about this great place.
Lokalita, příjemná obsluha
Starší vybavení pokoje.
Do koupelny se vcházelo jako do skříně.
