The views, the charm
We were unable to eat at the hotel as the restaurant was fully booked. There should be some advice to book well in advance as this meant our group of 4 needed to find somewhere else with limited time
Loved the old world look and feel of the hotel. The place is mainly spotlessly clean, and aĺl but one of the staff were amazing and friendly (one older seemingly quite grumpy barman surprised us, he acted like he just didn't want to be there... maybe he was having a bad day, but no smile, no friendly greeting, in that business it's a fail. Other guests also mentioned this behaviour, so it wasn't just us that noticed).
Some mould in the rooms, and a 'picture window' that needed a good clean on the outside (old cobwebs).
History, location and warmth
A bit shabby for the price. And staff looked a bit scruffy and either super helpful
Or not helpful at all
Check in, friendly, courteous and attentive staff, fine dining for dinner at the restaurant, complimentary room upgrade, beautifully appointed room and bathroom.
Stayed at the Hydro Majestic to experience this grand icon of the Blue Mountains. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience however the bed could have been more comfortable and the buffet breakfast was just okay.
The views are sublime, and are the reason we stayed here. The room was tiny. Bed was comfortable although extremely soft. The room had no special finishing touches, just the basics.
Check in staff seemed busy with only a few check ins. Although luggage carts were available, we weren't offered one which would have been helpful. The bathroom had barely any space to put toiletries on, which would be easy to fix with a small chest or table in there. Walking through the hotel on a Wednesday & Thursday seemed to highlight that it is fairly quiet on weekdays, e.g. no staff in bars in the snooker room or further down. The restaurant offers a fixed price 2 or 3 course meal, which was expensive for what was served (no extras included like potatoes). Dinner (restaurants) in the Mountains during the week can be hard to find, so choice is limited. The price we paid by booking early could have been bettered, but I didn't have time to do this before the stay, so we paid top dollar. For the price, I would expect a higher standard, more staff and a friendly check in experience, perhaps highlighting any tours or experiences available in this unique hotel.
Views
Overrated
Location beautiful
Unfortunately over priced for accommodation & food.
The view and the restaurant are top shelf with the latter being a standout in regional NSW.
The bed was very comfortable.
Some parts of our room were dated and in serious need of a coat of paint.
Historic hotel
Very expensive. Room wasn't very clean or well maintained
Location and its unique style
The staff were friendly and the view of the valley was excellent. The rooms were clean and tidy.
The rooms were much smaller than I envisaged and very dated. I understand that it's a heritage building however the rooms could be fitted out bit better with a few more modern touches like charging stations etc.
The staff where absolutely fabulous
I would highly recommend on staying here such a beautiful hotel. I would also like to have the waiter recognised aswell his name was Kento he was such a kind and sweet young man he is a asset to your business I hope you recognise him on the review as he truly deserves it.
view was great good breakfast
could not change the room temperature
Location and history can’t be beaten
The staff service is very variable. Some were wonderful. Others made you feel like you were wasting their time because you drew to their attention that your meal or coffee hasn’t been delivered for more than half an hour.
No view, but we knew that. Room was modern and nice, however there was no bench or somewhere to put items in the bathroom, eg: make up or toiletries. Breakfast was average but passable.
Bacon was boiled or similar, YUK. The rest was ok.
I loved the refurbished hotel and what was on display with the old
We didn’t like the cocktail menu in the bar, so you missed out on a lot of opportunities with making more money as well as not being able to order hot snacks until 4 pm when the bar opens at 2 pm .
Plus I felt the winter garden menu should have had a few more choices, not just 4 to choose from.
And I paid for the second most expensive room the wardrobe where the tea making facilities was located was still not renovated and looked out of place .
And the room was as really hot .
