Decor old and very tasteful. too big a stair climb and no lift. great value. Breakfast good. Friendly staff.
Stair climb to the room.
Wonderful old building full of period charm. Our room was very comfortable.
The ownership of the hotel is about to change and it was clear that stocks were being run down.
The location and parking
Needs some money spent on it and staff training
Very friendly staff and super location. If you are around on a Sunday, dine at the Fish Pond and enjoy their open mike usic experience.
Location
Room , shower were tiny
My room was very nice and interesting. Furniture I style with the age of the hotel. Comfortable and clean. Although bedside lights do not work.
If you look for better food than fish&chips Matlock Bath is best avoided.
Location. Friendly staff. Room size was good. Lovely to have 2 arm chairs to sit on and look out the window.
No daily house keeping. We were there for 3 days, beds not remade, bins over flowing. No clean towels . Had to wash cups up in hand wash sink. We were not made aware of any available bar facilities for residents. No cosy lounge. Breakfast not freshly cooked to order and tables were not set definitely with crisp table linen. Details on Booking.com appear very outdated compared to reality eg. No lounge, no evening meal service, no daily housekeeping service. The £130 per night (£390 in total paid) is definitely not good value for money. Had made the hotel aware on booking that the reason we were coming was special for my wife who had just retired from work. Very disappointed. Would value this stay at £90 per night. I only booked this hotel from the details provided by Booking.com l would expect some form of reimbursement please.
Quirky Old World charm with forests of out-of-square woodwork!
Excellent breakfasts with quality ingredients.
Cramped single room and, facing the rock face, was a bit dark even with the lights on
Position in town and parking are excellent. Great breakfast and lively tray in rooms
The shower is a little small but appreciate it is the space available. Would really like better coffee a breakfast.
Location, staff welcoming, breakfast
All good
A hotel with real character, it even has it's own cave! A real 'Sherlock Holmes' feel to the rooms which are full of period furniture. The bed was so comfortable! Donna and Chris, our hosts, were friendly and really knew the building and surrounding area. Matlock Bath is lovely and you have to do the Heights of Abraham, it's fab. Good food in the area and live bands in the pubs. The entire town, with it's ice cream and fish and chip shops makes it feel like a seaside town! Lots of motorbikes visiting the town...and I'm an enthusiast. Would highly recommend a stay at Hodgkinsons.
There was nothing I didn't like!
A beautiful hotel, with a lovely hotel room, we had the deluxe which was fabulous. Breakfasts were fabulous! And such lovely staff.
Nothing, all wonderful.
Great old world feel to the property excellent staff very welcoming beautiful breakfast and ideal location for exploring the local sights
Nothing perfect
Great location, parking onsite, good breakfast Lovely hosts. The hotel is like stepping back in time, very historic. The hotel even has it’s own cave, it’s amazing. Chris the host took us into the cave and gave us lots of history. Don’t ever change a thing, it’s fantastic. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Great base for exploring the area very central
Very friendly people who run the place
And lovely breakfast
Clean bed clean towels clean bathroom
They have a bar with a great choice of spirts etc
But of a evening never anyone about to serve you if you fancy a drink there before bed
And the cleaning needs to be deeper cleans
As you open the cupboard to put items in absolutely thick with dust and the sash windows are dusty dirty all in between the on the window sills, cobwebs etc
The important parts are clean
Just a shame these area do let it down
As its a beautiful old place
