We were attending a friends celebration, so had a set menu. The food and the service was excellent. In the evening, we had a tapas style snack in the bar, again could not fault food or service. The staff are a real credit to the hotel.
The kindest way to explain is that the hotel is 'tired'. The decor is dated and clearly needs a refresh. The room was lovely, and the furniture excellent quality, but it just looked a very outdated.
The drinks are very expensive, I had two glasses of wine, they were £14.40 each.....
A high quality hotel with beautiful rooms and fabulous gardens. A comfortable bed and the homemade biscuits with a coffee machine was a nice touch. We will certainly be back.
Rooms were very spacious clean
Everything very good to excellent and staff superb
Le cadre, le confort et la taille des chambres. La décoration très soignée. La beauté des bâtiments et du jardin.
Rien
Location, history, grounds, rooms
quality of food served from the bar sub standard
No lift
The positives
Our room in the stable block was spacious and comfortable albeit no slippers or dressing gown- latter could be requested.
Staff were friendly
Grounds and setting lovely
Breakfast was excellent 9 out of 10
The negatives
The dinner prices were exorbitant at £15/£45/£12 for starter/main/dessert
On first night our steaks were awful - my Ribeye was the worst ever all fatty and sent it back with Karen's Sirloin which was tasteless. We had started and did not want replacements and were not charged.
Although dress code was smart casual some diners came in restaurant in shorts and jeans- a five star restaurant
On the second night Karen's halibut was raw in the middle and inedible - again not charged for meal except £4 for chips and pear dessert £12,
Some staff needed training in restaurant etiquette - trying to take one plate away whilst other still eating and not allowing tasting wine before pouring both glasses.
Beautiful hotel in gorgeous grounds. Staff are very welcoming and friendly
Nothing
Set in beautiful grounds in a peaceful location. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were polite and attentive. Breakfast was very good.
Nothing
Loved its location , its character and the facilities
Nothing
Breakfast was lovely, and the grounds were beautiful to walk around. However, our room felt quite run-down and in need of an update. It was very stuffy, so we had to keep the window open, but unfortunately the staff smoking area was directly below, which wasn’t pleasant.
The lady on reception, though, was lovely and very helpful.

I appreciate it’s a period property, but it does need more maintenance, and the staff weren’t particularly helpful when we asked for directions several times.
Friendly and helpful staff
