Serious Security Breach, Inadequate Compensation

We enjoyed our stay at Nippon Seinenkan — the traditional atmosphere, friendly staff, and convenient location all impressed us. We were happy guests until our final night.

At around 3:30–3:40am, a staff member entered our room without any permission, warning, or consent. This is an unacceptable violation of guest privacy and security — full stop.

When we reported this to management before checkout, they offered a ¥5,000 discount on a towel purchase as compensation. That is approximately $30 USD for entering a guest's room without consent in the middle of the night.

We want to be clear: the issue was not the towel discount. The issue is that a hotel of this standing should have stronger security protocols, and when a serious breach occurs, the response must be proportional to the harm caused. A $30 merchandise discount for a privacy and security violation at 3:30am is not an adequate response.

Future guests deserve to know this happened and how it was handled. We hope management invests in better training and security procedures going forward.

Nihon Seinenkan is a very practical and convenient place, a rare find in Tokyo.
Pros:

Seinenkan is located in the center of Tokyo without being in the middle of the crowd. You can reach any part of the city with ease.

Cons:

While I enjoy looking down on the baseball stadium across the street, some people might find the noise tiring.

Super friendly staff, clean rooms and a great central location!
Pros:

The staff was super friendly and helpful. I was not able to book luggage service online due to some issues and they took care of absolutely everything for 1/3 of the price of the online service.
The rooms were super clean and comfy and we had a nice view of the city and 2 “free of charge” baseball games.
Absolutely great hotel for a great price!

部屋が広く、ゆっくり過ごすことが出来た。掃除をお願いしたが、こちらの都合で少し遅い時間を指定したが対応していただけたので舞台の時間まで部屋でゆっくり過ごすことが出来たのは嬉しかった。

A good choice in Tokyo - great location
Pros:

A very good choice in Tokyo. Good value for the money, Great location. Quiet, but central. Short way to metro and trainstation. Walking distance to Omotesando, Harajuku, Shibuya and Shinjuku park. Green area, even though it is also close to the road. Would stay here again. Accommodating and service minded staff, both in the reception, in the breakfast restaurant and the cleaning staff. Nice room and good beds. Nice (and free) public bath and very good breakfast. Super view from the reception over the baseball field. A little cafe and a little shop in the first floor, and the Olympic museum next door.

Cons:

The room could have been a little bigger, since we were three people and a lot of luggage, but I guess we could have booked a larger room and we had the space we needed.

Seinenkan is a no-fills gem in the heart of Tokyo.

I have stayed here many times over the years and will continue to return. It is very conveniently located.

Cons:

It has become so popular that it has become very difficult to book the desired dates precisely. Lately, every reservation of mine has been a compromise. Book well in advance, and you won't be disappointed!
