Otter Hotel

Check in was strange. Our room was not ready early, which is absolutely fine and understandable. When we came back, it was still not available and past check-in time, and past when they told us to return. Our keys only worked once, and did not let us access floor from outside stairs. I went looking for ice (there was only one ice machine on that wing), and got trapped outside, had to walk all the way down and around the building to get back in.

It appeared they had some computer issues, which explains this, and the problems with keys.

All small issues in the grand scheme of things. Really one of the nicer stays on our 30 day trip from Alaska.

my cream for the coffee curdled but I like that it came in a glass jar

I hope they will improve this to make the hotel truly exceptional. However, I was quite surprised that there were no complimentary bottles of water, tea, or coffee in the room. These items are available upon request at the reception desk, but in my opinion, this is rather inconvenient and unusual.

Nothing - everything was perfect.

It's unrelated to the hotel, just lacking understanding of the general location. It is located at the opposite end of the Banff Ave, it's close to highway, but extreme far from the main strip. Local bus can take your there no time. But for people who want a 5-10 mins walk to get the steps in, they will get more than they are prepared.

The bed was a little too hard for my liking. But it’s just a matter of preference. Not big deal.

The pillows were a touch too firm

Even with shades closed the courtyard lights and the light around the entry door left the room too bright all night long. The noise from the door to the stairway closing woke me up several times. Stay away from the stairway end. The room was too hot and the thermostat would not allow me to set it lower. Can’t leave a window open (noise and lights). The trek to use two elevators to get to my room is silly and hard for a handicapped person, especially when one elevator quit working. Check in should not be burdened with handing out little teas and coffee. Makes the line slow. Put some signage to the garage. I thought I had gone the wrong way when I saw the closed garage door. Disorganized!

Our room wasn’t made up one day; staff went above and beyond to help.
