Room had just been renovated and was super comfy, could use more 'creature comforts' like plugs near the bed and non-big light lighting options. But overall the location is fabulous, the staff super friendly, and the hotel charming and well laid out
Wordt nog veel verbouwd en is beneden nog behoorlijk ongezellig en rommelig. Wel zeer ruime fijne kamer.
Nem lehetett a fürdőben ablakot nyitni és a szellőzés sem működött
Staff was lovely. We were greeted by a lady in training and just want to reassure her again that she did a great job! Good luck!
Room was surprisingly huge, plenty of space. Smart TV was also a great feature. Hotel in general is absolutely gorgeous. Huge building!
Unfortunately we were in a room next to where the baby seagulls were nesting, and as much as I love them they were on top form!
Please don't put people in this room whilst the gulls are raising babies, I'd hate for future guests to potentially be mean to them.
**DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.**
I have stayed here many times on business, including before Marriott took it over. Back then, it was a good hotel and the charge for bringing a dog was around £10-£15, which is entirely reasonable.
Marriott has now turned that into a **£50 dog charge**, roughly 50% of the room rate. That is not "pet friendly". It is simply a rip-off.
I booked through Booking.com, where the hotel is described as "pet friendly". Nowhere in the booking process was this extraordinary surcharge made clear. Only when I arrived, late in the evening, tired after travelling and with very few realistic alternatives, was I told I had to pay another £50.
The staff had clearly had this argument many times before. Rather than showing any understanding, they smugly informed me that the charge appears on the hotel's own website. That is an absurd defence. I booked through Booking.com, not through the hotel's website. Why would any customer complete a booking on one website and then search another website for additional charges?
The hotel was perfectly happy to accept my Booking.com reservation and take my money. Once I had arrived, however, they refused to refund the room unless I paid the extra £50. They knew exactly what position I was in. Their solution was effectively to pay up, lose the cost of the room, or leave late at night with my dog and nowhere obvious to stay. The only other practical alternative would have been to leave my dog locked in the car in the middle of summer, which was completely unacceptable.
What made the experience even worse was the attitude of the staff. They were dismissive, smug and entirely uninterested in helping. They behaved as though this was perfectly normal, which suggests this happens regularly. If so, the hotel knows there is a serious disconnect between what customers are told on Booking.com and what they are charged on arrival, yet it continues to profit from it.
The hotel's response is as disappointing as my experience.
Firstly, the suggestion that I was "aggressive and abusive" is completely untrue. I was neither. I challenged what I believed to be a misleading booking process and an outrageous £50 pet surcharge. I did so firmly, but at no point was I abusive towards any member of staff.
Secondly, the statement that the charge is "set out on all websites and booking channels" completely misses the point. The issue is not whether a pet charge exists. The issue is that Booking.com described the hotel as "pet friendly" without making it sufficiently clear that bringing a dog would add £50, increasing the cost of my room by around 50%.
No reasonable customer who books through Booking.com should be expected to visit the hotel's own website afterwards to discover significant additional charges. If the hotel knows that Booking.com does not present this information clearly, it should insist that it does or decline to market itself in that way.
I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years, before Marriott took it over. The previous pet charge was around £10-£15, which was entirely reasonable. Increasing that to £50 is, in my view, excessive and exploitative.
What disappointed me most was not simply the charge itself, but the attitude. There was no attempt to understand the problem, no goodwill shown to a returning customer, and no willingness to find a sensible solution. The response I received here reflects exactly the same attitude I experienced at reception.
Since leaving, I have stayed at another local hotel whose owners told me they regularly see guests arriving after similar disputes over the Green Hotel's pet policy. Having now experienced it myself, I can understand why.
I stand entirely by my original review.
We enjoyed our stay, the room was definitely better than expectations , although they have just joined raddison individuals, so alot of building work going on, but we only noticed because we went the wrong way to our room.
We checked the menu online before we booked because of my wife being coeliac, however when we sat down to eat it was different, and we were told its probably not been updated online, however it did not have much coeliac friendly options and as much as we couldn't find fault with any other part of our stay, its for this reason we would not have booked in the first place.
I do assume that because they are new members of the Raddisons individuals group of hotels , the building work and the menu issues are because of the change over and the influx of upgrades required.
The bed was comfortable, very good service and staff very kind and helpful.
The water pressure in bathroom was weak, the floors were squeaky, no lift.
The room accommodation was excellent, booking in was a bit lengthy,I believe the member of staff was new to the job. The room itself was large, clean and attractive. Later on, ordering a drink at the bar was also lengthy,at first there was no person to be seen, after a few minutes a young girl appeared, after giving my order, she said that she didn't think she could serve alcohol as she was too young. After a few minutes another member of staff appeared and served me after a fashion, pouring a Guinness appeared to be a challenge. We also booked dinner that evening, and again it took far longer than expected...my wife had a burger and I had steak pie...there were no potato chips available on sweet potato chips or mash. The steak pie was disappointing,a metal ashette with more gravy than meat and two pieces of,obviously frozen puff pastry, afterwards for dessert I ordered ice cream which took forever to arrive. Next morning, the member of staff was delightful, however the hot itemThe foods for breakfast were well overheated and dry, with the fried eggs being solid, the fresh scrambled eggs my wife ordered were lovely.
We had a two night stay and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the things I have pointed out were amusing to us and didn't spoil our enjoyment
The male waiter at dinner was a star as was the woman on breakfast duty, some other staff members of staff I believe were new to the job,but we all have to learn. We would not hesitate in booking again...especially as the hotel is undergoing a major refurb. I'm even looking into organising a 2 night golf break for 4
The food overall could have been better, but the accommodation itself was lovely
The staff were exceptional. Breakfast was OK
The hotel is under construction. Amenities were limited. Wifi was out. Waiting for room to be checked by a manager after the housekeeping and the reception clerk had already checked it.
Breakfasts excellent. Room was large clean and comfortable though the two chairs were not something to sit and relax on. Armchairs needed or bucket chairs. Good shower. Could do with an extra pillow or two.
Dinner for our party of 8 was dreadful. We had to ask for a menu (the girl found one but on prompting found 7 more). The menu was very limited and the food, when served, was dreadful. The gammon steaks were more akin to shoe leather than gammon; the lentil soup was too salty; the chicken burger, well give them the benefit of the doubt, it might have been chicken but was closer related again to shoe leather. We were never asked if we needed more drinks and never came to ask if we wanted deserts or coffee. We cancelled our following nights reservation and went to eat at the Raj Mahal in town (quite excellent) instead. They did have a small wedding with 50 guests which was their excuse for everything but in a hotel this size in the tourist season (and 100% occupancy) that was no excuse at all. Our bottles of water were not replenished in our room and reception was not always manned. A taxi that we requested to be booked for Sunday morning for the station was never booked and we only discovered that at 10pm when we checked to make sure that it had in fact been booked.
It was clean
We booked and said we where traveling with a dog then got hit with a £50 fee for dog I top of our fee paid to booking.com
Newly refurbished room with new usb ports and TV and value for money
The blinds were not blackout so bright in morning no bin in the toilet and some of the bathroom fittings were not finished properly
Stayed here a year ago and the hotel was tired and in much need of an upgrade. The new owners have delivered this and there has been quite a change for the better.
