Pros:

This is a beautiful guesthouse with a lot of character. The property has an unmistakable old-world charm, with well-maintained gardens that are a real highlight. It sits right next to NWU, which made it ideal for my visit. The whole atmosphere was warm and welcoming from the moment I arrived. The rooms are comfortable and cozy, and have everything one can need.
There is a real sense of care and pride in the place, and it shows in every detail. It is the kind of place that is easy to settle into and hard to leave. A genuine home away from home.
Bryan was outstanding throughout my stay, genuinely helpful and attentive in a way that is rare. He went out of his way to make sure everything was taken care of, and that personal touch made a real difference to my experience. Paul welcomed me on arrival and immediately set a warm tone for the visit. Both of them clearly take pride in what they do, and it comes through in how they treat their guests.
I will absolutely be coming back whenever I am in Potchefstroom.

Pros:

The location right on campus close to restaurants and NWU

Cons:

Was not aware it was a self catering establishment , thought it was a garden court hotel . Also the curtain in front of the door to rest of the house could not close. Bit exposed

On the doorstep of NWU
Pros:

Garden Court Potchefstroom is a beautiful guesthouse with charming old Victorian character. It has a warm, welcoming feel that makes your stay really enjoyable.

The bathroom is on the smaller side, but perfectly suitable for a solo traveller. The bed and linen were excellent, ensuring a very comfortable night’s rest. One of my favourite features was the enclosed balcony overlooking the NWU main gate — the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening or a peaceful morning coffee.

The garden is lovely, with mature trees providing a sense of privacy from that side of the property.

The street itself is very busy, with cars and students active well into the night. However, if you choose accommodation right at a university’s main gate, that is to be expected. It didn’t bother me at all, but it may not suit those who are sensitive to noise or unfamiliar with student life. I actually enjoyed the atmosphere — one moment you hear kwaito music, the next Bok van Blerk playing! You have the option to book a room at the back (not towards the street) if you wish. I got a tour of all the rooms and they are big and beautifull.

I would definitely recommend this guesthouse to anyone wanting to stay close to campus. A great bonus is the Bakehouse just 30 metres from the entrance — their giant cookies are a must-try!
