Arenal Monara

The location was everything. Very close to the main town and to the tours we had booked. Our hosts were very attentive and saw that all our requests were treated to promptly. Due to the weather, we weren’t fortunate enough to see the entire volcano but next time!!!!

We had a great time at Monara! Angela greeted us and was very friendly. In the evening, her husband Armando took us to explore the jungle area behind the sister hotel Xilopalo and he enthusiastically showed us different types of frogs and other night wildlife. The room was really clean with lots of places to store our things. It was very clean. The highlight was the massive balcony that had comfortable outdoor couches and a whole kitchenette-like area with a fridge, a coffee maker, cutlery etc., in addition to incredible views of the volcano and opportunities to watch the birds. Seeing toucans from our balcony was a highlight of our stay for sure. Overall, it made such a difference to come home to a really comfortable space each evening after days full of activities. Very easy to walk around town from this location but down a side street so still quieter. I have to give an honourable mention to the staff at the front desk who were super helpful and saved our trip many times over as they were able to make calls and get tickets for activities like the hanging bridges and certain hot springs that seemed to be sold out online. You can also drop off your laundry there and they have it done for you for a decent price. We were very grateful for all their help.

La habitación era muy amplia, estaba muy bien mantenida y muy bien decorada, teníamos una terraza espectacular desde la que se podían ver tucanes y muchos animales.
Por la noche nos hicieron una ruta nocturna por los jardines para ver Ranas y diferentes animales como Iguanas pequeñas.

Our stay at Arenal Monara exceeded all of our expectations. Everything from the room to the location is just as described, and there’s a bigger hotel called Xilopalo just down the driveway that offers organized tours and a delicious and affordable breakfast.
The absolute highlight of our stay was the amazing hosts. Angela and Armando are the sweetest humans, and so welcoming. In the first night, Armando offered a free tour around the property to show us all the wildlife (frogs, spiders, etc). Armando also leads the sloth watching tour which is incredible! When one of the members of our group was sick, both Angela and Armando helped tremendously, no questions asked. We felt right at home, thank you so much Angela and Armando!

The room was exceptionally clean and had everything needed including a kitchenette with decent sized refrigerator, nice towels, and toiletries. The balcony was amazing! Comfortable seating with great views of the volcano and surrounding forest. Even in the off season I was able to spot so many birds, including toucans and parrots. The location, even though on the edge of town, was within easy walking distance to stores and restaurants. The pool and surrounding area with hammocks and other seating was beautiful and relaxing. The absolute best part of our stay was Angela and Armando. They are amazing human beings and made the stay that much better. We had a small issue in the room that was beyond anyone’s control and they took care of it right away. The night walk with Armando was fantastic. Highly suggest booking the sloth tour with him. It was the highlight of our trip.

La mujer fue muy agradable desde el principio, siempre atenta por si necesitábamos algo. La habitación tenía una bonita terraza desde donde se podía ver el volcán (si tienes suerte y está despejado).

Excellent room, great attention to detail, had everything we might need. Beautiful view of volcano from balcony!

Buenas ubicación. Muy limpio el lugar. Muy amables los dueños. Te dan un tour nocturno para ver ranas gratis, fueron las mejores fotos de la rana de ojos rojos que logré tomar. Además tienes acceso a las instalaciones del hotel Xilopalo que está a un lado.

Volle Empfehlung! Durch die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Nachbarhotel kann man dort Tiere beobachten, im Pool baden, gut Essen...

Excellent walkable location off the main strip. Super friendly host. Great patio with a wet bar and stunning volcano view. Easy parking.

Angela greeted us on arrival and gave us a tour of the facilities which was really helpful. She made us feel very welcome and answered all our queries. The accommodation was exceptional - the best place we stayed in over the 2 weeks in Costa Rica.

Run by a very lovely couple Angela and Armando who were very friendly and helpful. The Facilities were very well maintained and clean! I did the sloth tour and night tour which i for sure would recommend! (Saw sloths, Toucan, various Frogs, lizards, Iguana and some lovely birds).
Booking all kinds of other tours around La Fortuna is super easily done since they work closely with their neighbour Hotel Xilopalo who you can book all the further tours with - this i found to be very convenient and comfortable since i only had 2 days in La Fortuna but still go to squeeze in various tours!

It was very clean and centrally located. Had a great little restaurant attached with good service and breakfast. The owner was very responsive and helpful.
