Arenal Monara

Our stay at Arenal Monara exceeded all of our expectations. Everything from the room to the location is just as described, and there’s a bigger hotel called Xilopalo just down the driveway that offers organized tours and a delicious and affordable breakfast.
The absolute highlight of our stay was the amazing hosts. Angela and Armando are the sweetest humans, and so welcoming. In the first night, Armando offered a free tour around the property to show us all the wildlife (frogs, spiders, etc). Armando also leads the sloth watching tour which is incredible! When one of the members of our group was sick, both Angela and Armando helped tremendously, no questions asked. We felt right at home, thank you so much Angela and Armando!

The room was exceptionally clean and had everything needed including a kitchenette with decent sized refrigerator, nice towels, and toiletries. The balcony was amazing! Comfortable seating with great views of the volcano and surrounding forest. Even in the off season I was able to spot so many birds, including toucans and parrots. The location, even though on the edge of town, was within easy walking distance to stores and restaurants. The pool and surrounding area with hammocks and other seating was beautiful and relaxing. The absolute best part of our stay was Angela and Armando. They are amazing human beings and made the stay that much better. We had a small issue in the room that was beyond anyone’s control and they took care of it right away. The night walk with Armando was fantastic. Highly suggest booking the sloth tour with him. It was the highlight of our trip.

La mujer fue muy agradable desde el principio, siempre atenta por si necesitábamos algo. La habitación tenía una bonita terraza desde donde se podía ver el volcán (si tienes suerte y está despejado).

Buenas ubicación. Muy limpio el lugar. Muy amables los dueños. Te dan un tour nocturno para ver ranas gratis, fueron las mejores fotos de la rana de ojos rojos que logré tomar. Además tienes acceso a las instalaciones del hotel Xilopalo que está a un lado.

Volle Empfehlung! Durch die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Nachbarhotel kann man dort Tiere beobachten, im Pool baden, gut Essen...

Excellent walkable location off the main strip. Super friendly host. Great patio with a wet bar and stunning volcano view. Easy parking.

Angela greeted us on arrival and gave us a tour of the facilities which was really helpful. She made us feel very welcome and answered all our queries. The accommodation was exceptional - the best place we stayed in over the 2 weeks in Costa Rica.

Run by a very lovely couple Angela and Armando who were very friendly and helpful. The Facilities were very well maintained and clean! I did the sloth tour and night tour which i for sure would recommend! (Saw sloths, Toucan, various Frogs, lizards, Iguana and some lovely birds).
Booking all kinds of other tours around La Fortuna is super easily done since they work closely with their neighbour Hotel Xilopalo who you can book all the further tours with - this i found to be very convenient and comfortable since i only had 2 days in La Fortuna but still go to squeeze in various tours!

It was very clean and centrally located. Had a great little restaurant attached with good service and breakfast. The owner was very responsive and helpful.

He viajado por muchos países y me he alojado en muchos lugares, no recuerdo haberme encontrado tan a gusto. Todo el mérito lo tienen los propietarios, Ángela y Armando: tan amables, disponibles, atentos, volcados en hacer que tu experiencia sea inolvidable, te ayudan con todo.. Ubicación ideal, a 2 minutos andando del centro pero aislado del tráfico, solo se escuchan pájaros y ranas. La habitación es grande, muy limpia, tiene todo lo necesario, cama y almohadas muy cómodas, y la terraza que da al volcán y al bosque está amueblada para disfrutarla - verás innumerables pájaros de todos los colores. Encima, no he visto ni un mosquito ni otro insecto dentro de la habitación. Relación calidad-precio excelente. No se pierdan la excursión para ver los osos perezosos (y muchos más animales) con Armando! Y no doy más detalles porque las pequeñas sorpresas forman parte de la experiencia. Gracias por todo Ángela y Armando, espero volver a verles pronto!

Die sehr persönliche Betreuung durch unsere Gastgeberfamilie. Angela ist eine Seele von Mensch. Nomen est omen. Armandos private Froschtour durch seinen nächtlichen Garten und seine Faultiertour mit 9 Faultieren und einem Baby werden wir nicht vergessen. Auch in einer privaten Notlage ist sofort die ganze Familie angerückt, um zu helfen. Die Lage der Unterkunft zur Stadt und der Ausblick vom privaten Balkon zum Vulkan sind super. Es gab viele Vögel zu beobachten, vor allem Kolibris..
