— The worst hotel experience of my life

I travel regularly and I can usually be quite tolerant, but this experience was simply unacceptable.

We booked this property through Booking.com. The listing stated that the accommodation had 4 double beds and 2 rooms, and the photos also showed a small sitting area with armchairs. We were 3 people and chose this option because there was no option available for a room for 3 people.

After paying in cash at reception, we were taken to a room that was completely different from what was advertised: one double bed and one extra bed. We immediately pointed this out, but we were told that it was “the same”.

We were then offered a meal as compensation, which we accepted.

However, when we entered the room, things got even worse. There were insects everywhere — cockroaches, ants, lizards, spiders, mosquitoes, as well as a dead fly. It honestly felt more like being in a zoo than in a hotel room.

There was no blanket provided for the extra bed, and despite trying to contact room service, nobody answered. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable — I could feel the springs through it. There were also only 2 cups for 3 people.

We also experienced a power outage during our stay.

But the worst part happened when we went to have the meal that had been offered as compensation. We were given a bill and asked to sign it. We asked whether the meal was already paid for, since it had been offered as compensation. We were told yes, and that we only needed to sign. We therefore signed and wrote “PAID” next to our signature.

Then, suddenly, we were told that because we had contacted Booking.com to complain about the room, the compensation was no longer valid and we had to pay approximately $35 for the meal.

When we refused, we were told that we would not be allowed to leave the hotel the following day and that the police would be called.

We immediately contacted Booking.com and explained the situation. Booking.

Personnel was great and very kind! They are really there for you, breakfast was on time when we asked for a specific time (not sri lanka style haha). Via what's app they ask when they can have the room cleaned. They are looking out for you. Great service!

We loved the breakfast! Dinner was oke, not great.
A really nice swimmingpool to relax. Our kids loved it and so did we. Bathtowels at the pool are available to use.
Clean rooms, which we find very important.

It's a bit out of Sigirya town, fortunately we had our personal driver. Tuktuk is also a good option here.

We would definitely recommend the Tepraas Sigiriya!!

Rustige plek, het eten was goed. Fijn ontvangst en hulpvaardig personeel. Prima uitvalsbasis voor safari's.

Very good rooms, perfect pool, good restaurant and a beautiful garden !
Pros:

We had a very pleasant stay! The rooms are very nice, the pool was perfect and we also enjoyed a lot the restaurant! We also had a laundry done! The host and his team are very helpful and friendly. Good base to do safari and Lions Rock and other attractions in the area! We can highly recommend the hotel and it’s team!

Pros:

Nous sommes arrivés en famille avec deux véhicules et 2 chauffeurs. Nous avons demandés si il disposait des chambres pour eux. Le gérant a voulu nous escroquer en Nous fesant payer. Mais notre chauffeur qui est également guide et qui a l'habitude d'emmener des touristes nous a interdit de payer des suppléments car les hôtels mettent a disposition gratuitement des chambres pour les chauffeurs qui accompagnent les touristes.

Cons:

Le gérant de l'hôtel est très désagréable.
Pour chaque demande il fallait payer un supplément.
Il voit que par l'argent et soutirer l'argent aux touristes. Heureusement que nous avons séjourné qu'une seule nuit.
De plus les chambres étaient sales. A besoin d'une grosse rénovation.
Nous avons demandés des petits déjeuner a emporter car nous devions partir tôt pour monter le rocher du Lion. Nous avons eu des sandwich beurre fromage et une rondelles d'ananas. Pas de jus rien. A notre retour a l'hôtel après avoir fait la randonnée nous avons demandé gentiment si nous pouvions avoir au moins un café car vu le prix du petit déjeuner que nous avons payé nous avons au moins droit à un café. C'est l'une des pire expérience que nous avons eu.
Je ne recommande pas du tout.
Piscine pas du tout entretenue.

Excellent facilities and amazing friendly staff.
Pros:

Location was perfect for our trek to the top of the lion rock , pool was perfect for a nice cool off at the end of the day . The restaurant was amazing and the food was great . Would stay again . 🇦🇺

Cons:

Was a little expensive for being the low season . Apart from that everything was fine.
