Brilliant hotel that we’ll return to as often as possible.
Pros:

Superb hotel altogether, with the potential to be epic. Extremely fine restaurant run by PJ and her team.

Cons:

Mattress a bit hard for my wife.

Hotel could be excellent, but it is lacking a soul. Service is efficient but cool.
Pros:

We had breakfast on three mornings. On two of the mornings by 9:15am the orange juice dispenser was empty and there was no yogurt left. I had to ask for yogurt which arrived after a minute or two. The orange was not refreshed. Nobody appeared to be monitoring the breakfast bar for content. Who is in charge?

Cons:

It appears that the staff don't like working there, Smiles were in very short supply and pleasantness at a minimum.
The sixty two steps up from the car park were a pain. The bathrooms are NOT en-suite, they are in the lobby of the room. Fire doors are noisy to open to access the bathroom waking up my wife during the night.

The hotel and setting.

AN excellent hotel which provides a good base fo exploring Northumberland
Pros:

Lovely spacious room with plenty of storage space. Large comfortable bed. Attentive and friendly staff, delicious food in the restaurant. The hotel is conveniently placed opposite the castle and within easy reach of the town centre. The photo shows the view of the castle from our room.

Cons:

Only issue was there was a delay in the restaurant and we had a long wait for our meal but this was dealt with promptly by the staff and the meal was certainly worth waiting for!

Very comfortable but not enough space to be quiet and read

Cons:

The sleeping pack with eye masks and ear plugs. Ear plugs were very good but the sleep masks were black plastic and awful. Why would you want to put that on your face. Please try and find a breathable option that isn’t plastic and sweaty.

Lovely, comfortable stay in a great hotel in an amazing location.
Pros:

It is a lovely, welcoming hotel. We had a spacious room overlooking the quiet courtyard. The location beside Alnwick castle is amazing. The staff were very well trained but friendly and helpful. Great food. Altogether an excellent stay.

Pros:

Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The choice of food and drink was very good. We enjoyed drinks on the terrace on arrival, dinner in the evening and a great breakfast the following morning. Our room was beautiful with the added novelty of the bath in the bedroom. I hadn't realised the hotel was literally next to Alnwick Castle, so that was an added surprise and bonus. We stayed one night to break up our journey to the Fringe in Edinburgh and will definitely stay again.
