Rude Staff - Disappointing Reality vs. Online Images

​I booked a "river view" room based on the appealing photographs online, but the reality was incredibly disappointing. My initial ground-floor room faced a public footpath. Because of this, the windows required heavy voile curtains for privacy, which completely obstructed any promised river view.

When I approached reception to request an alternative, the interaction turned highly unprofessional. The staff member I dealt with was dismissive, adversarial, and created an incredibly intimidating atmosphere. I was tersely offered a room just two doors down on the same floor, flatly told nothing else was available, and met with a hostile, awkward silence.

Having no other choice, I accepted the room. While the river remained largely obscured, I did have an excellent, unobstructed view of the children's play area. This stay fell entirely short of expectations, largely due to the confrontational attitude of the front desk staff.

Pros:

They gave us an upgrade to the executive suite because it was our anniversary.

Cons:

Leaving was the only negative..it's a brilliant hotel

Overall we had a lovely stay with good food from the bar and breakfast. Staff were very friendly.
Pros:

Excellent hot breakfast with plenty of choice.
Staff were very polite and welcoming.
Spa was clean and well managed.

Cons:

The decor within the rooms was a little tired and could do with an update.
Unfortunately the jacuzzi wasn’t working but this was possibly due to a power cut.

Pros:

Loved the location and leisure facilities.

Cons:

The bar was mainly used by diners ( food was excellent) but there wasn’t really an area if you just wanted a drink.

Definitely worth it
