What we liked:
The proprietor was lovely, friendly and welcoming. We happened to meet her near the entrance, which was fortunate because we had been struggling to find it.

Our rooms were generously sized, clean and thoughtfully styled. The beds were very comfortable and beautifully made, with electric blankets provided. There was also a large-screen television, and one of our rooms had a wonderful view of Mount Taranaki. The shared kitchen and dining facilities appeared well equipped, although we did not use them.

Cons:

Unfortunately, the photographs did not prepare us for the overall condition of the building. Although considerable care has clearly gone into styling and maintaining the rooms, the building itself appeared very run-down, both outside and throughout the shared areas. There was a noticeable smell of damp on entering the rooms, as well as large areas of paintwork visibly bulging away from the walls, which appeared consistent with significant moisture damage. This made the rooms feel less comfortable despite their otherwise thoughtful presentation.
It was extremely cold during our stay. A heater was provided in each bedroom, but the hallways, bathroom and other shared spaces remained very cold. Because of this, we spent the evening in our rooms, went to bed early and left soon after waking.

The shared shower was also awkward to access, as it was raised on a plinth requiring three steps up and down. This may be difficult for anyone with reduced mobility.

The accommodation is located on a busy road opposite a petrol station. We also noticed an “Earthquake Prone Building” notice near the front entrance, which we had not been aware of when booking and would have preferred to know about beforehand.

Overall, we felt the listing photographs did not accurately convey the condition and atmosphere of the wider property. Given the price, the accommodation did not represent good value for us. Despite the warm welcome, comfortable beds and obvious attention paid to presentation, we would not choose to stay here again.

Once I identified where the place was I enjoyed my stay in a pleasant elegant space.

Beautiful, roomy accomodation. Nicely furnished and a big comfy bed.
Pros:

The accomodation was stunning. So much room and the decor was beautiful. It had everything you needed and more.

Cons:

It would have been great to have more heating. There was a heater in the bedroom but not the lounge area. It was pretty cold in Stratford and the accomodation was cold. Maybe an electric blanket too.
