Breakfast options were limited
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The ladies at reception were delightful, my guestroom was comfortable and spotless, and the breakfast was a generous selection of delicious food.
A special thank you to Mauro who ensured that the coffee kept flowing and that everybody enjoyed their breakfasts.
Very friendly and helpful staff, great location. Comfortable rooms, great choices at breakfast and would definitely stay here again. Mauro at breakfast, and the whole team were really good.
Hospitality and location
Pousada Porto is a delightful hotel in an amazing location. Directly outside the beautiful lobby is a friendly pedestrian street with access to the river and the train station Sao Bento. My room was beautifully appointed and had doors opening onto a little balcony allowing fesh air and sunshine into the room. The pool and sauna were a treat as was the breakfast buffet with daily variations. All of the staff were helpful and friendly and the housekeeping staff did a fantastic job. I highly recommend this hotel.
Disappointing experience overall.
The room characteristics did not correspond to how they were presented on Booking.com. Due to room images that created an attractive architectural impression but did not accurately reflect reality, along with incomplete and misleading room descriptions, I ended up reserving a room that was not suitable for me to stay in — something I only discovered at check-in.
More concerning was the way the issue was handled. What initially appeared to be a friendly and solution-oriented approach proved, in reality, to be misleading to the customer, followed by inconsistent statements and unfulfilled verbal assurances. This created a serious loss of trust and raised concerns regarding transparency and professional conduct.
Furthermore, my subsequent correspondence with senior management made it clear that this was not merely an isolated issue in staff communication, but rather reflected a broader problem in the hotel’s institutional approach to customer relations and professional conduct.
Although the hotel’s presentation on Booking.com is quite appealing from a marketing perspective and its location is convenient, I believe there are far better accommodation options in the surrounding area.

This is a very well located hotel great for all the visitor needs, with good English spoken by the staff. We had booked a city view with mini balcony through easyJet holidays, what we got was a room on the lower ground floor looking out over the alley beside the hotel (with no balcony). Which meant if we didn’t draw the blinds, passersby would be looking in. Obviously you get a bit of noise for same reason. It’s not the hotels fault , it was just wrongly advertised by EasyJet.
The rooms were very clean and had fresh towels each day. Our room was very cosy. We had to turn sideways to get past the end of the bed and the TV on wall. Breakfast buffet was very good and varied, with excellent service the food was fresh and they cooked eggs to order.
With good air conditioning, the room also had a free room safe (unlike some hotels in Europe these days) and there was a large bottle of water, which was replaced each day.
They have a small bar area in the lobby. We were going to sit here and have a drink one night when back from a day walking, but it was full a coach party group who were staying at the hotel. However it is a nice hotel, with a small cozy swimming pool and is a shortish walk to main train station and metro.

We had a very enjoyable stay for 3 nights at this hotel which is centrally located in the old town and within easy walking distance of the main tourist attractions and the river. We had breakfast in the hotel which was very nice with good choices. There are plenty of reasonably priced restaurants in the area for dinner. The staff were very friendly and helpful and our room was more spacious than we had expected. Although the building is obviously old the interior decor is contemporary and fresh.
Central location with excellent staff. Great selection for breakfast.
