四季亭 Shikitei

From the moment we made our booking, we felt so welcome. We were contacted straight away to ask if we had any special requests, which immediately gave us a wonderful first impression.

My partner is vegetarian, and the team were incredibly accommodating, thoughtfully substituting meat with alternatives such as seafood, tofu and vegetables. On arrival, we were warmly greeted by the Oi family, and welcomed with a simple yet beautiful tea ceremony before being escorted to our spacious, traditional room.

A special thank you to our nakai-san, Mukumura-san for her flawless hospitality and kindness during our stay.

Staying at Shikitei truly felt like immersing ourselves in Japanese culture. Everything, from the traditional architecture and warm hospitality to the dining experience and the beautiful robes provided, felt authentic and thoughtfully considered. It was a genuinely special experience.

The location was perfect, too! Just a 10–15-minute walk from the train station, Shikitei sits right on the edge of Nara Deer Park. From there, it was another 10–15 minutes on foot to the temples, and Sanjo Dori Street was also within easy walking distance.

Overall, we had an incredible stay and are so grateful to the wonderful people who made it special. I would wholeheartedly recommend Shikitei to anyone looking for an authentic, traditional Japanese ryokan experience. It is a beautiful place to immerse yourself in Japanese culture and hospitality. The hospitality from the Oi family, and our nakai-san, Mukumura-san, made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay; an unforgettable experience.

We had a great time at this ryokan. Very welcoming staff, greeting us with a tea and cake, wonderful breakfast (accommodating for vegetarians), and comfortable futons. Very large room. The baths were very nice as well. Location couldn't get any better.

Great spot by the park entrance. It was a great way to experience a traditional Ryokan. The room was very traditional. Nice tea ceremony to welcome you.

Traditional inn with a remarkable attention to detail. Peaceful location facing the park. Excellent breakfast! We stayed for three nights and loved every moment of it.

C'était une très belle expérience pour nous deux (adultes) et notre bébé qui a fêté son mois-niversaire là ! Ils ont tout préparé pour trois personnes, même les brosses à cheveux... Les repas ! Mon bébé a pu essayer de la nourriture japonaise pour la première fois. Franchement tout était nickel ! La chambre, l'accueil avec la cérémonie de thé... Merci beaucoup !

The people here were so helpful and friendly! From the moment you step inside they make you feel welcome. Location is great, just outside Nara Park and easy walking distance to the bus terminal and trains. Our room was large and had a separate ‘living room’ so we could stay up after our son slept. We used the onsen and enjoyed it. Having breakfast and dinner in a yukata was also a good experience. They provided a small yukata for our 4-yo son and he loved wearing it. The dinner was very elaborate and prepared with care (mine vegetarian). Our son was served a special kids’ meal which was amazing (although way too much for him to finish).

Nettes, altes Wirtshaus direkt im Narapark. Großzügiges Zimmer mit großem Bad und getrennten Clo. Personal extrem freundlich und hilfsbereit.

We felt transported in a different time and era. it was a true Japanese experience. the staff was beyond wonderful and if you get the chance to test their dinner it was beyond expectations!!!
