CASITAS MARAIKA HOTEL & BEACH CLUB, Puerto Vallarta

Our room was beautiful and very open to nature, and I knew that before. However, in the communication leading up to our stay, management didn't make us aware of the large amount of land crabs that are on the property. At night they came out in droves. We had to zip up our luggage and there was very little space and/or luggage racks to place it off the ground. These crabs were climbing up onto the bathroom vanity, the mini fridge, they were in the shower, etc. Getting up at night to pee, was a scary process.

We knew a visit in low season would be humid, and they did provide us with two fans. But we needed to close the mosquito net to protect us from bugs/crabs. And inside the mosquito net it was stifling. The only mosquito protection they provided, was a small bottle of bug spray in the mini fridge that they charged an exorbitant price. No mosquito light, no citronella incense... in a dengue region!

On day two of our stay, when we came back from the beach, there was a really stinky smell lingering around our cabana, smelling like a dump site. We pointed it out to staff at dinner, they said someone would look at it. After dinner, a staff member followed us back to our room to inspect, complained that our room was 'muy lejos' (very far) and then insisted on us paying them a tip for having to walk over and inspect the stinky smell. The next morning the smell was back with a vengeance. So it was definitely a change in the wind direction, which means our room was near a trash site, that they clearly knew about.

Although the food and service was good, there were major issues with billing. Being charged for drinks we did not have. Luckily we closely inspected the bill. When my partner wanted to tip 15%. Which was generous considering the drama, the hostess handling the transaction insisted on 20%.

Definitely do not stay here. Come for the day, enjoy the food, leave after sunset. But be sure to check your bill twice!

Todo excelente! Solo al final los lancheros trataron de cobrarnos y el transporte ya está incluido para entrada y salida. Fue un poco incómodo.

Nothing comes to mind. Only stayed one night so didn't find anything to complain about.

A complete disorder no one knew our room name when we got there! It was confusing dealing with the night watching

The beach right at the property was not at all relaxing. It’s a constant flow of water taxi drop off/pickups. And many people using the beach aren’t staying there. I felt as a guest I couldn’t enjoy myself. There is a DJ with loud music constantly playing. It’s not the peaceful retreat as advertised. Constant music, constant people coming and going on the small beach.

The property is not maintained, The cleanliness is horrible, the chairs and the coffee pot are dirty, unfortunately, no hot water in the beginning when we checked in, the flying bed is a disaster, there is day club next to this hotel with extremely loud music all day long. The stairs are so small and steep, I ended up sprained my foot and broke my fifth metatarsal bone and stayed in bed for almost two months!!! Basically we spent $440 for one horrible night!

The Luciernaga house could use a few minor upgrades (lighting, shower).

It’s more like fancy glamping than hotel stay but absolutely lovely stay regardless
