The biggest positive about Hotel Horta is the staff. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and genuinely seemed to be trying their best. Unfortunately, the hotel itself was a huge disappointment and, in our experience, nowhere near the standard we would expect from a 4-star hotel.
The hotel has virtually no atmosphere. The bar was closed most of the time, there was no bar service or music around the pool, and there aren't even toilets conveniently located near the pool area. The pool itself is quite small and is down several flights of stairs away from the main hotel area.
We were allowed to take our own drinks from the hotel bar down to the pool, but were then told to bring the trays back ourselves. So essentially, we were carrying drinks and trays up and down several flights of stairs and providing our own poolside service in a supposed 4-star hotel. It honestly felt bizarre.
Our first room smelled of mould, the air-conditioning wasn't working properly, the water pressure was very weak and the hot water took several minutes to come through. The bed was EXTREMELY hard — genuinely like sleeping on a wooden shelf — and the pillows were absolutely horrible.
After we complained, the staff moved us to another room, which was slightly better, and we appreciated them trying to help. However, the overall standard was still nowhere close to what we expected.
In the second room, the shower drain was so slow that the shower tray was filling with water. We removed the drain cover so the water could actually drain away. The following day, rather than investigating why it had been removed, it was screwed back into place. That evening at around 11pm, we ended up with a flooded bathroom. It was the final straw in what had already been a very disappointing stay.
We really wanted to enjoy this hotel, and again, the staff themselves were lovely.

Close to the pool the toilets and cabin are old and dirty. The breakfast is good but coffee machine are slow (no Americano so you need to get 3 or 4 double espressos instead!) and fruit juices are poor quality
Comfortable rooms, all looking out over the pool with a lovely view across to Mount Pico.
The pool was lovely and the whole hotel, although quite old, was clean and rooms were fairly spacious.
The Reception staff were all fabulous.
Breakfast was OK but nothing special.
It would have been nice to have had a kettle in the room and tea/coffee available.
There was a fridge in the room but it went off during the day when the power to the room was off, which kind of defeated the object of putting anything in it!

Die Zimmer waren leider dreckig und wurden nicht ordentlich gereinigt. Das Frühstück ist nicht abwechslungsreich, Gemüse bspw. gibt es gar nicht. Die Bettwäsche war dreckig. Safe konnte nicht abgeschlossen werden, weil er kaputt war. Zimmerwechsel war nicht möglich. Teilweise gab es auch Schimmelflecken an der Decke und den Wänden.
Úplně ze všeho nejlepší je úžasný výhled na Pico. Pokoj byl v nejvyšším patře a bylo to prostě super. Jinak je hotel starší, ale čistý. Večeře i snídaně v hotelové restauraci byly také moc dobré.

Непрацюючий кондиціонер - в кімнаті було дуже душно.
Непрацюючий холодильник (або працює дуже слабо і тільки тоді коли ви знаходитесь у номері .
Незручний фен у ванній кімнаті,поганий злив у раковині .Чищення басейну до 13:00 дня.
