Hotel has been renovated recently. The common areas feel warm and cozy for Alaska. Rooms are a decent size and decorated nicely, but the bathrooms still feel a little dated. They have a great F&B program and a nice little gift shop at the entrance. The staff are nice and helpful.
There's a lot of street noise and guest activity that can be heard from the rooms.
Our room was fine, but the restaurant on property was disappointing. We went in to have dinner and thought we would just share a pizza and salad. He told us they were out of all pizza's. We asked for a few minutes to find something else. He came back, we asked to share the lasagna and a salad. He then told us they were also out of lasagna and also fish and chips. In the interim we had ordered wine for our dinner which was served, but left after drinking our wine. I feel the waiter should have been up front with us in the beginning of all the things they were out of.
The staff at the gift shop were nice.
The building gives off converted warehouse vibes. There were unhoused people sleeping outside the window
The location.
The carpets needed cleaning. Kind of sticky.
Easy access to downtown, used hotel returns which was good value and the food was also tasty
Slight train noise overnight. But I guess that will be the same for all downtown hotels
The Wildbirch Hotel has a modern design, a convenient downtown location, and friendly staff, but unfortunately our stay was affected by several avoidable issues.
On the positive side, we would like to thank Antonia from Zagreb, Croatia. She was exceptionally kind, welcoming, and professional. Her positive attitude and excellent service were the highlight of our stay.
With better room preparation, more reliable operations, and improved comfort, this hotel has the potential to offer a much better guest experience.
The biggest disappointment was check-in. We had to wait almost two hours past the official check-in time because our room was not ready. Even after we finally received the room, staff came back later to finish setting up the extra bed for our daughter, which should have been prepared in advance.
The hotel was also surprisingly cold. Heating relied only on the air conditioning in heating mode, which did not create a particularly comfortable atmosphere.
Breakfast was another letdown. Due to technical problems in the kitchen, only a very limited buffet was available. We understand that unexpected issues happen, but the overall breakfast experience was far below expectations.
The staff tried to do their best but the hotel overall was so far below my expectations especially given the price we paid.
Breakfast service at the restaurant was very slow.
Rooms do not seem to be well maintained and have a nasty smell.
This is an older property that has been completely remodeled with a beautiful artistic Alaska vibe. The room was large, comfortable and had extras like fluffy robes and throw blankets. Easy parking on site for a fee.
It was a bit expensive, but in line with other hotels in Alaska in July… supply and demand is not in the consumer’s favor. But we really relaxed here and felt it had better amenities than most.
Very nice hotel. The rooms are very large. And the decor is lovely. Facilities within the hotel were excellent. Restaurant and small gift shop. Great location. Easy to walk around Anchorage.
The train was very close by. The train horns blew all night. So perhaps not the best sleep. Long walk from reception to lifts then to your room. We opted to take own bags but think the large trolleys would be easier to pull bags over carpet.
It was great all and all. A long way to our room though, we were 3197 and the last room was 3199 lol. I read some people complained about the jaunt, and it was a jaunt. We have pics of the 3 to 4 loong halls to get to our room.
Long haul to room.
Location was in the downtown tourist area which made accessing activities very easy.
Trucks coming off the highway near by were very noisy.
Our stay at the Wildbirch hotel was outstanding in every way. The room was well appointed, well maintained and very clean, with the addition of good fluffy bathrobes! The eclectic staff (Croatian, Serb, American Samoan, German, Mexican and local) in all departments were friendly and helpful. The food and service in the restaurant at both breakfast and dinner was excellent. The restaurant/bar has an outside seating area and there is also a really good rooftop deck with sofas, tables and comfortable chairs, which we used during our stay, as it was sunny! The location was perfect, nice and quiet (except for the train horns lol!) and easy walking distance to restaurants, bars, walking paths and public transport. I highly recommend this hotel if visiting Anchorage.
The room was spacious and modern. The location is great, close to everything including a short walk to the train station. The bar/restaurant is great and the two ladies behind the bar on the day we arrived were so lovely and provided great service. The beds were comfy and they had good block out blinds for the never ending daylight.
Reception staff are not into customer service. One lady in particular was extremely argumentative and almost hostile when I challenged why they had charged for the entire stay upfront, and then half of it again! They could not split the payment between myself and my mum, it was too difficult apparently. Our room was not ready at 3pm and we were told we would be notified when it was ready. At 5.30pm my 83 year old mother basically went and begged for a room as she needed to lie down after our 19hour flight. They had to find us another room and then we were greeted with long black hairs all over the bathroom.
