Convent to location
Friendly staff
Very clean and comfortable. Great location.
Great location for Kent State family activities and close to many good restaurants, coffee and stores. I also had a lovely walk down by the river.
Wonderful place to stay when visiting Kent State - clean, modern, friendly staff - parking is a little difficult, but once you figure that out it's just fine, and staff is very helpful in this area
We didn't get a discount that we were told we would, and people ran up and down the Halls screaming all night and nobody did anything about it. And every time we have stayed there which is multiple times every year the pool is always closed.
After parking and the paid breakfast, I thought this was not a competitive value. After my stay, I regretted not staying at Holiday Inn Express or something equivalent.
Let me start this review off by saying many positive things:
1. The people who work there are great. Customer service was not an issue at all. Everyone was helpful - the front desk, housekeeping (MAKE SURE TO TIP THEM!), and every other employee there.
2. We stayed in a room on the 4th floor with two Queen Beds. The rooms are big! Tall ceilings and we did not feel "cramped."
3. The location is PERFECT for walking to restaurants, bars, stores, etc. It is also right across the street from campus. Kent State's campus is so beautiful. The town of Kent i also beautiful and has so many wonderful shops and restaurants!
-- We ate at GiGi's (delicious), Ray's (awesome vibes), Barrio (great Mexican), The Nuthouse (cool place), and the coffee shop - Tree City.
Here is my honest opinions about a few things. I hope the hotel will consider them.
1. The rooms need updated, ASAP. They are old. The furniture is worn out, there are no alarm clocks (not a huge deal), there are no smart device/USB-C, etc, outlets, the TV's are very old (they are NOT "smart TV's, you cannot stream any app).
2. The bathrooms smell. They smell old, outdated, and in need of a major overhaul. The hotel supplies small bottles of body lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. They do not provide body wash.
3. They charge $16/night for parking in a parking garage that is NOT attached to the hotel. You have to walk a block to the garage (not a big deal but it should be noted). There is no covered area, in the front of the hotel, to unload your car/belongings.
Overall, I am not sure I would stay there again based on the value of the room. It is not cheap to stay here. It is convenient if you want to walk to everything. But if you are looking for a hotel that is up to date, this is not it.
5 STARS and A BIG THANK YOU to Sales Manager Jannie Jordan and AG Manager Sarah Bianca. We booked a room at Kent State Hotel thru Hotels.com for the Hall of Fame weekend in nearby Canton Ohio 4 months in advance - to arrive and find out Hotels.com dropped the ball. We did not have a reservation and there were no rooms at the hotel or within a 60mile radius. Hotels.com was giving us the run around as we were frantically trying to find a place to stay for 3 nights.
Jannie just happened to see us at a table in the restaurant desperately trying to find a room and offered to help. Jannie and Sarah took the time to unblock a room and make our dream come true of being at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for one of New Orleans (our hometown) favorite sons, Drew Brees. Their kindness will never be forgotten. There really are still good people in this world and we were blessed to run into 2 of them. To Jannie, Sarah and the entire staff at Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center we will never forget what you did for us. We will be making a special trip to the area at some point in the future just to thank you again in person!
Location to Kent University was the main reason we stayed here. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The beds were soft so if you are looking for a firm bed, you won't get one here. In addition to paying for your stay, you have to pay daily for parking. In the restaurant, the food was meh. While I was fine, my daughter and mother got sick from the meal they each had so we avoided it the rest of our stay. Also, in the bar area on the one huge screen, all that was played was FOX News and shows on that channel all day.
Very nice place to stay all the comforts of home Sarah really made my family feel welcome and comfortable John the night auditor really help me with the laundry because my two year old got sick and sue helped provide a pack and play because we forgot ours didn't even know they had these and Isabella at the front desk mabe checking in a breeze. thank you all the staff at the kent state hotel
Just stayed here for my Son's graduation and everything was outstanding! I have stayed here several times over the last 4 years and have never had a bad experience! Kudos to Laura at the front desk for going above and beyond!!!
A lovely hotel in downtown Kent. Lots of restaurants and shops around. Parking is across the street in a garage. Very clean hotel.
Everything was good, except that the garage parking was $16 a day, which was too much. The restaurant inside the Hotel is terrible. Our server told us the kitchen is staffed by students who don't care about the quality of the food.
We had a celebration of life here and had family from many different states come in for it. Staff and Brittany Baker were amazing!
This was our second stay at the hotel and both have been excellent experiences. Reasonable prices and the location is close to both KSU and area restaurants.
Love the location of this hotel in downtown Kent. However, the hotel rooms do need some upgrade of the decor and A/C unit is noisy. Our room also smelled like greasy food during our stay and the bed has a broken/glued end to the frame which was noisy every time my husband got out of the bed at night.
This is our go to hotel when we are in Kent! Easy walking distance to many restaurants and shops and the the university. Clean and updated rooms, friendly customer service, great food at the 1910 restaurant.
Wonderful area ... we stayed here after attending the Pablo Cruise concert at The Kent Stage, which is just one block away. Great restaurants and shopping all within a couple of blocks of the hotel. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly and provided great instructions regarding use of the parking pass. We would stay here again.
