Enjoyed a 7 night holiday on B &B basis
Had a small glitch with room, but the hotel moved us without any fuss
Really friendly and helpful staff, especially the Concierge
Beach club is wonderful
Location is absolutely spot on. Far enough away from the centre of town, but very easy to walk into the centre, or Saint 'Agnello, which is also definitely worth doing
Top tip: Don't book a Garden Room, go one grade up.
An absolutely wonderful hotel and location. Spectacular views and an amazing private beach club. The front desk staff were very friendly. The breakfast buffet was excellent. We extended our stay by 3 nights and went back a week later. The perfect escape from the summer heat wave.
There was nothing to dislike.
Our stay at Hotel Riviera Sorrento was truly wonderful. A special thank you to the concierge, Francesco and Gianni, for their genuine warmth, kindness, and exceptional attention throughout our stay. They were always friendly, helpful, and attentive to every detail, making us feel truly welcomed and cared for. Thank you both for your wonderful hospitality. We truly appreciated everything and hope to see you again!
We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel Riviera in late April. We had an oceanfront suite, and the views were astonishing. The room itself was huge and very spacious, including two chairs to sit on the balcony and a separate sitting area. It was incredibly clean. The staff were lovely throughout our stay, and the breakfast was excellent. We stopped by every day prior to our excursions. While it is a little jaunt from the harbor and the center of Sorrento, we were able to walk to many of the places of interest with no trouble. I highly recommend it.
We had an amazing few days in Sorrento staying at the Grand Hotel Riviera. The hotel has stunning views, and sitting at breakfast looking out over the bay was a real highlight.
The beach club was also fantastic, with beautiful views, very comfortable sunbeds and the chance to swim in a private, cordoned-off section of the sea. Swimming there with the cliffs as a backdrop was an unforgettable experience.
We also ate at the hotel restaurant, which we hadn’t originally planned to do, but they had a special menu for St Anna’s night, along with a singer performing at the hotel and fireworks over the bay. It turned into one of the highlights of our holiday and made for a really special evening. The only downside was that we waited around 35 minutes after being seated to get a drink, despite asking a couple of waiters. However, the manager dealt with it very well and gave us an extra glass of wine each. It was probably just down to it being an exceptionally busy night, as everything else was great.
The room was comfortable, with good air conditioning, and the hotel is around a 10-minute walk into the centre of Sorrento, with the route being mostly flat, which was a bonus.
Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and would definitely stay at the Grand Hotel Riviera again. A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location with amazing views and a wonderful beach club.
I could tell you that the hotel and rooms are beautiful and tranquil, the beach area is fabulous, the staff are very friendly and the breakfast terrace has a special atmosphere, and that would all be true. But I think the measure of a good hotel is how they handle difficult situations. On arrival, we had a small issue which was dealt with promptly, professionally and in a friendly manner. This left us to get on and enjoy our second holiday to this stunning hotel in a very special town.
We had a brilliant week at the hotel. The service is excellent , the rooms are spotless and the views from the terrace and lounges are stunning. The breakfast is superb with an excellent choice of hot and cold food, eggs cooked to order and great coffee. The highlight for us was the lift down through the cliff to the private beach deck to sunbathe and sea swim. We always could get a sunbed and parasol and you can order drinks and snacks there too. We hope to return.
Our family of 4 - my husband and I, plus our 2 boys in their 20's stayed for 3 nights. We had 2 rooms: 130 - deluxe w/ large patio on the corner that overlooked the pool and faced the sea) and 510- premium w/ sea view that has a small balcony but large and for the boys separate spaces for them to spread out + bathtub and separate shower. Both were at the very end of the halls and furthest away from elevators, but that was fine for us and kept the noise down. We took advantage of the "beach" club umbrellas and chairs, plus dip in the sea, which was very comfortable temps in early Aug. Also the pool, which is lovely but small. Towels are available at both, no services at the pool, but there were at the beach club + if you go early you can snag a noodle for hanging out in the sea. Its deep - I'm 5'4 and couldn't stand. Lovely sunset patio where we enjoyed drinks and beautiful scenery.
Breakfast each morning was a highlight, great spread of a lot of bakery items. For Americans looking for semblance of pancakes and waffles will be disappointed, they had mini pancakes, but not what you're used to. There were scrambled eggs and bacon every day, plus an assortment of yogurts, breads, jams and offered selection of beverages, sparkling/flat water, fresh squeezed juices, prosecco, etc. Their cappuccinos were excellent, so was the coffee, all included with the breakfast. Had a nice dinner at the hotel including: insalata and caprese salads, filet mignon (very very limited gluten-free options) and fish of course which you find in abundance was excellent. Only complaint was burger was served with a very seedy and robust multi grain bun. So heads up to ask if they can swap out.
Service throughout the hotel was excellent. It was a walk to the town center, but easy for them to get a cab for you and is a short ride - 4 of us one way was 18-20 euros. Dinner at Tasso, which they recommended was incredible, had lots of gluten-free options, plus a wide selection for all tastes of seafood, beef and pasta options.
El hotel el muy lindo y tiene muy buenas instalaciones y cerca del centro
Dos cosas que podrían mejorar son la conexión del wi fi que va y viene y la humedad de la habitación…quizás deberían poner extractor en el baño …
We really enjoyed our stay and had a very pleasant experience overall. The hotel was comfortable and the service was good.
The only downside was that our room did not have a view, and we felt the price was quite high considering that.
We are currently still here whilst writing this review as we leave on the 7th August. We would have given this hotel 5 stars but sadly you have disappointed us as we have discovered today you will not have any courtesy rooms or suitable areas where you can change / shower in privacy when you have a late departing flight. For the money we have paid we find this completely unacceptable for a hotel of this calibre. We would suggest this needs to be addressed by the management immediately.
Apart from this blip nearing the end of our stay we could not fault this hotel.

Last but not least- de auto parkeren op eigen terrein. Echt een aanrader.
Weinig keus aan eten bij de Beachbar.
The location of this hotel is breathtaking, and the staff are professional and extremely friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed yet polished. The bathing platform has a beach bar and access to a safe sea bathing areas. It's a ten-minute flat walk into the centre.
We also had some fabulous meals at the hotel restaurant with wonderful service and incredible views over the bay. The sunset around 8pm was truly spectacular! The maitre d' Luigi ensures everything is extra special. Also Teresa at breakfast always greeted us with a smile and our favourite drinks. Also Luigi was great and also helped me to learn a little Italian. Also Angelo, Francisco and Raffaella in the bar were fantastic as we're Mario and Vittonio who worked at the beach bar. The hotel is fabulous but it's the staff who made it extra special for us.
Sorrento capped off our family's two week Italy trip and we were happy that we stayed at the Grand Hotel Riviera. We stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels in Venice, Florence and Rome and while aspects of this hotel are a little dated we were able to look past them.
The good:
-staff was generally excellent. we felt like a valued guest with the lobby staff always saying hello and asking how our stay was going.
-location is great. being right on the coast the view are stunning. It was maybe a 10 minute flat walk to the downtown area, which suited us just fine (btw a taxi is 20 EUR for about a 3 minute ride).
-the common areas were all very nicely appointed and updated
-the restaurant food and staff were excellent. Throughout our stay we had used it at times for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
-pool and ocean area were nice. We liked being able to access either area. While each area got busy at times in the mid to late afternoon we didn't have a problem getting seats together at either. The ocean area was neat with having the protected swimming area along with floats/noodles to use along with pool attendants to help and ice cream available to buy for a few EUR.
-it was very hot outside and the AC in the room worked great.
The area for improvement:
-the room was a little dated compared to the other 4 and 5 star hotel we stayed at in Italy. I expected it so it wasn't an issue for us but still something to call out. We specifically stayed in a family room which had a common area with two individual beds along with a separate bedroom and bathroom. In the bedroom was also the door to connect to another room. What I really didn't like about it is that the door was thin and a single door (not a door in that room and a door in our room that both closed) so we could pretty clearly hear people in the other room as well as light easily came through from their room. The bathroom had very little counterspace which is a challenge for a family of four.
Despite what I said above we still really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to others.
