Nice hotel, lovely location, friendly staff. Very helpful to have a self-service breakfast day 1 as we were going to a sporting event and needed to be out early!
Breakfast on the second day was not so good, hot option served by a member of staff who didn't know when things would be replenished. Poor cold selection.
We were well taken care of, with advance intimation about dinner menu. The rooms were nice, both with a view of the high street. While the shower cubicle was small, the water pressure and temperature were good. Breakfast was good, but was portioned out manually on Sunday and had to be ordered in advance on bank holiday Monday.
The village has limited options for lunch and dinner. So, it's best to plan on advance and make reservations for dinner.
Tough to find parking near the hotel, whether free on-street, or the paid Dunster Steep.
While the hotel itself gives you WiFi, there's no mobile data coverage at all in the village. You're entirely reliant on restaurants and other businesses providing WiFi.
The breakfast was acceptable bacon had either been cooked hours before or re-heated.
It was a self self~service set up but not really welcoming. Hot food was served from a loaded warm cabinet,
We couldn’t help ourselves!!
DInner was not the best, we had to book time in advance, also our selection of courses.
I will say on complaining about my meal, I did not have to pay for it.
Location fine
Chosen for closeness to Dunster castle and Ultra challenge event.
I think there were some staffing problems. No daily room tidying & cleaning.
Breakfast served over 1 hour only. 8-9. Not really acceptable. No self service for cooked food. Portions allocated by staff.
Evening meal adequate but not remarkable
No dedicated parking. Public car park nearby but out of sight.
We visited today as a family of 6, 4 adults and 2 children, for Sunday lunch.
2 courses for £20, which was excellent value for money. The quality of the produce was outstanding and the meals were phenomenal! Would highly recommend a visit. The staff are really lovely and helpful as well.
Location
Very dated
It was a nice place to stay with character. The staff were helpful & friendly. Breakfast was good.
Very dated decor although generally well maintained. A lot of stairs and passages, hard to navigate.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was very small and looked rather tired. The pictures on the walls were faded to the point of being almost white.
Not actually staying in the hotel, but using the hotel owned property 1a, situated down the road from the hotel in the very picturesque village of Dunster. The property was well presented and spacious rooms, with a quiet atmosphere and very clean. Excellent service from all, meals were very well cooked and presented, especially on the last night we were there (The oven Baked Chicken Breast, with a creamy mushroom sauce) was excellent!!! Excellent value for money! The whole atmosphere was very friendly!
Loved the town, people and shops too. Hotel was on many floors and lots of original features.
Loved the old buildings but after a knee operation I found the stairs and heat too much. Staff were helpful. Unsure if suitable for disabled people and set up for walking holidays. There was a lift but could only b3 reached after climbing stairs. Although dinner was provided if required and 2as very nicely cooked the heater was unable to switched off in thee dining area so at 35° this was uncomfortable. Breakfast was great as they had a cooler on for yoghurt and milk ECT and well cooked.
The room was comfortable and clean and the breakfast was lovely with a good choice.
The reception area wasn’t particularly welcoming. It still has the plastic screen around the desk from the Covid period which creates a barrier between staff and guests. Our biggest concern was at checkout, we had already paid for our stay, but after leaving the hotel the manager chased us down the street believing we hadn’t paid which was quite embarrassing as payment had already been paid . This situation could have been handled more professionally and with better communication.
Warm welcome and friendliness throughout our stay. Helpful host. Lovely rooms - nice size, all facilities, great view of main (historic) street, especially old yarn market building. Glorious rabbit warren of a hotel being composed of three adjoining buildings (all old).
Good fresh food in restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Limited menu choice but enough for most (all of my party) - two meat, one fish, one vegetarian. Excellent desserts.
Brilliant location in middle of town and excellent for access to castle and memorial gardens with superb flower displays.
