The location of this hotel is perfect for being near to shops and restaurants and transportation around town. The public spaces are beautiful and well-kept and it is, without doubt, a good value for the money. For us, it seemed that the surrounding neighborhood was a bit sketchy, especially at night however we had no issues.
The hotel staff is very pleasant—they kindly accommodated our request for smaller pillows (the ones in the room are a combination of king size and “huge” and they accommodated us with a generous late check-out on our final day.
We were happy that we didn't hear any of the subway or transit noise mentioned by other guests. Staying on the 1st floor at the back was quiet in that regard, though we did hear the housekeeping personnel repeatedly opening and closing their storage closet right outside our door.
Unfortunately, it is our opinion that the property is in need of serious renovations to bring it back to its former standards; while it was rated 4-stars in 2014, it seemed to us that it must have declined over the years.
The room itself had several issues that made our stay uncomfortable and difficult. The carpet had some unpleasant stains, and the room stayed at a warm 24-25°C despite the thermostat being set to 19°C.
The bathroom configuration, poses a real challenge for anyone with physical mobility issues. I had to measure and found the side of the tub is 22.5 inches high and 6.5 inches wide, making it tough to get in and out of safely.
The tub drain was so slow that water would build up to 2-3 inches deep while showering, the shower sprays water onto the floor, and the towel rack is mounted at an unreasonable 6' 11" off the floor and it’s mounted inside the tub area.
After the first night, we were unhappy enough that we asked to cancel the rest of our reservation because of these issues, but the property refused to offer a refund for the remaining nights, not a very customer focused policy. It IS a very convenient spot, but the upkeep and bathroom layout need major attention.
