If it’s not because of the breakfast and staff, the stay would be very disappointing

Breakfast was awesome and the location was great. Staff were helpful and friendly

Cons:

The room smelled musty and the furniture was old. Curtains and walls were stained. The toilet leaked and wouldn’t flush.

Good Potential, but Lacking in Execution
Pros:

I chose Manhattan Hotel based on a strong recommendation from a local friend in Jakarta and social media, so I arrived with high expectations, particularly in terms of service and cleanliness.

Unfortunately, the experience did not start well. Upon arrival, I realized I had mistakenly booked my stay starting the following day. While I acknowledged the mistake and was willing to pay for the additional night, the handling at the front desk felt unwelcoming and lacked a service-oriented approach.

I also requested a simple room decoration and cake for a special occasion, which was declined due to a two-day notice policy. While understandable, the response felt inflexible.

When I returned later in the day to collect my room key, I was left waiting at the lobby without being attended to. I eventually approached another staff member, Afnan, who made an effort to assist and improve the situation.

The initially assigned room was below expectations, with visible stains on the curtains, raising concerns about cleanliness and quality checks. After being shown a few alternatives, I accepted another room, although it required an additional wait of about an hour.

Later that evening, I found the wardrobe door to be stuck and partially damaged, which further suggests that maintenance checks may have been overlooked.

There was also inconsistency regarding payment procedures, particularly around room service and deposit requirements, which could have been communicated more clearly during check-in.

On a positive note, Susan from Guest Relations stood out. She was professional, patient, and genuinely helpful in resolving the issues. Her effort made a noticeable difference.

Breakfast offered a good variety and the food was enjoyable. However, service at the restaurant could be more attentive. Small gestures, such as assisting guests who are clearly struggling while carrying items, would go a long way.

Overall, I am not expecting anything beyond what was paid for, but I do believe the hotel should ensure a level of service and consistency that reflects its standard and pricing.
