Consistently positive mentions: staff described as delightful, helpful and attentive; specific praise for named staff (Audrey) and repeated comments about great, friendly service.
Location
9.5
Strongly positive: picturesque village setting, easy access west of London, pleasant surroundings and described as a 'hidden gem' and great village location multiple times.
Room Quality
9.2
Rooms repeatedly described as luxurious, stylish and spacious with excellent bathrooms; some comments about heat in rooms and suggestions that air conditioning would be welcome.
Amenities
8.8
Good amenities overall (excellent bar, restaurant and breakfast included for many). Detractors include no air conditioning in hot weather, a hot water delay reported once and issues with beer lines/draught quality.
Value for Money
8.3
Mixed signals: some guests called it great value, but notable negative incidents (being charged twice, and a guest mentioning cost per room) lowered perceived value.
Food and Beverage
9.3
Food/restaurant receives frequent high praise (exceptional food, fantastic restaurant and breakfast). Minor negatives: draught beer quality (Guinness/beer lines) and one comment about very hard butter at breakfast.
Overall Experience
9.1
Overall very positive guest sentiment with many 'fantastic', 'great stay' and 'beautiful' comments; isolated service/value incidents and heat/no-AC issues tempered some experiences.

When you stay look forward to breakfast
Pros:

A little out of the way for our ultimate destination but well rewarded with a comfortable room and friendly and efficient staff, there is a good and vey popular , and quality resturant and we regretted we had not arrived a few hours earlier to enjoy it , but ours plans didn’t allow it, looking at the food diners had it made us envious , the breakfast the next morning made up for this , lovely choice, well prepared and cooked, and included in the room rate 😊 we visited the village store across the street which is a wonderful example of the best of village shops , worth visiting too.

Cons:

Parking is on the street or in front of the village shop or there is a village car park close by, we arrived after dark and it was busy ( it’s has a good and popular resturant) and for some reason there was no lighting ( an electrical fault orrgais) and the entrance doors not obvious , a small inconvenience

Absolutely Fabulous all around
Pros:

The breakfast, lunch and dinner were all excellent. In fact everything was superb from beginning to end. Peter and staff did an excellent job- nothing for too much to make my stay comfortable and memorable. I have visited previously and hopefully would again. I would recommend this establishment to anyone! All Excellent!!

Cons:

Absolutely nothing - all is perfect as is

An excellent traditional country pub that I would happily stay at again.
Pros:

The Royal Oak is a traditional country pub in a picturesque village in Royal County of Berkshire.
I very much enjoyed my hearty Sunday dinner of roast lamb and roast vegitables. My room was spacious and comfortable and my breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was excelent.
This is a very good place to stay if you are going to visit the Royal Berkshire Shooting Ground.

beautiful old village, and the restaurant is wonderful
Pros:

food was fantastic and our room was quite big (I think the biggest available)

Cons:

rooms not easy to cool down (no ac, but we didn't expect this in an old building), but one of the windows didn't open properly so difficult to get a through-draught:( there was a fan provided though.

carpeted rooms, which I always dislike - laminate floors so much more hygenic.

Pros:

Food, bar area, restaurant & setting.

Cons:

Waited 20 miniutes for hot water for a morning shower - it has nothing to do with the age of the property as the narrative explained within the room documents - the HWS needs updating.
PS I work in the building services sector and live in an18th century property.

Great stay, great meal.
Pros:

All very good, bedroom was nice, it was extremely hot the day we visited and room had an electric fan but an air con unit would have been great. The restaurant was excellent you could eat inside or outside.

Cons:

The room 8 Cottage - the rear garden was a little unkept and the ashtray had not been emptied. But having the garden space was great. the front to the cottages could be improved with some potted plants next to the door.

Pros:

We stayed in the separate lodge on the ground floor with access to a secure garden which suited us well with a large dog
A lovely room with a very large well equipped bathroom
Good surroundings and an interesting village

Cons:

Some noise from the nearby M4 motorway can be heard in the village and the garden of our room.
It was very hot weather, and we would have benefitted from air conditioning
